I was wondering when you're offered a job from Capital One pending a background check what does their background check entail? I had a misdemeanor 12 years ago and my credit isn't exactly all that great. What are their requirements?

***I applied for the Teller position at capital one and was hired.****

The background check seems to be your typical BR check done by outside an outside company that capital one hires.

It Checks for prior convictions, possibly pending charges, etc. I myself have been arrested a few times when I was younger but the charges were thrown out. May vary from location to location but that would tell me it does Not scan for arrest records themselves.

It also seems that it does not scan for your traffic infraction history as my license was suspended 3 or 4 times when I was younger due to accumulating too many points/speeding tickets speeding tickets. (Never had anything serious like DWI's or whatever else related)

So if you're not an ex felon and you don't have any serious misdemeanor convictions (Anything besides marijuana convictions really) I'm sure you'll be fine.

Can't speak specifically about Capital One but in general, most (not all) companies don't care about your "credit score".

What they don't like to see are derogatory public records like bankruptcy, repossession, liens, etc.

Has anyone not passed one of their assessments? I had a phone interview with a recruiter for an Assistant Branch Manager position, and the interview couldn't have gone better. I was emailed 3 assessments. The math assessment was one of the most difficult I've had in my entire job-hunting career!
Not feeling too good about it and that makes me so sad : (

Was recently hired by Capital One. No drug test, no finger printing. Background check took 8 business days. Was told by the recruiter that background check included credit check. She said they looked at credit perimeters. Not sure what perimeters they review, but my credit was awful at the time.

What are they looking for in the background check? Do they contact you to let you know if you have been cleared or not from the background check? Because when I did the paperwork it says they will email you the onboarding information after the background check?

Received offer letter and background check consent email last Monday and signed employee agreement yesterday and now waiting on background check. I am eagerly waiting on call from my recruiter and everything should be set? Hope I receive that call before Christmas. If not, I won't be able to provide 2 week notice to my current employer since my start date is in second week of Jan. Some are saying that they do check credit and some say they don't and that is making me really nervous becoz I have a car loan under my name and I don't want that to be reason for rejection. Let me know if anyone has opinion in this matter.

Thank you!

Does your employer gives you the option to rescind a notice or push it to a later date? I would give them 2 weeks from the starting date and ask before hand if you would have to rescind it or delay it if they would be okay with this.

Could some people who have been, or being considered for, teller positions at capital one let me know how long the typical hiring practice takes. I did my video interview on April 14 2015 and have not heard anything back since.

They will do fingerprints in Richmond... A charge from 1999 popped up on my record I was never convicted just charged. Someone from associate relations emailed me an affidavit to fill out discussing the details... My start date is supposed to be 7/6.... Has anyone had this happen to them

Allsmiles, can I ask what your misdemeanor was as you advised they took their offer back. I ask because I wasn't convicted but arrested for an assault battery misdemeanor and it was Deferred adjudication. But I am not sure if they will deny me or not, they reached out to me and asked for more information and now I am not sure if they will deny me or not, didn't think it would have popped up..

I applied at Capital One in Tulsa OK 11/04/2015. I went for fingerprinting and background check.
The background checks takes 8 business days. Finally I got an Email from First Advantage
Reporting Service on 11/20/2015.
The offense listed below is currently reflected on your background report. Obtain a copy of the court records showing the charge, final disposition and any conditions attached to the disposition. Return the court documents and completed affidavit as attachments in reply to this email.
CHARGE 1 Shop Lifting
DATE OF OCCURANCE May 20 1974
STATE : VIRGINIA
This happened !!!40 years!!! Virgina where I am from. I just turned 18 and getting ready to graduate
high school. Me and a friend were at like a Walgreens store and I saw a bracelet that I just had to have.
I put it on and loved it and kinda walked out with it. I was caught by security. I gave it back but they still pressed
charges. I pleaded guilty total value was 3.00$ The clerks office said the document if it still exists maybe so far back in archives and unlikely to exist. I told them it showed up in a background check
and she thought I was applying to be an FBI Agent. Nope...a call center in OK that pays 11.60 per hour. So I am unable to start work at Capital One until I go to Virgina and get that documents and other complicated and lengthy documents. We are not required to do a drug test. So you make go to work waxed out on Meth and totally stoned out. But 40 years ago I did the unthinkable. WOW

Hi everyone. My wife was offered the work at home customer service position pending background check. She has a DUI from when she was younger and filed bankruptcy a few years ago. Will either of those prevent her from being hired?

It looks like a lot of people are asking the same questions about the background and no one is getting back on here with their results; I figured I would.

I interviewed and accepted a position in the Plano Texas location, and upon acceptance I was told that a background investigation would be performed by a company called First Advantage.

I had to get finger prints done at a satellite location that was affiliated with First Advantage and ended up needing to get them done twice because the first set was not clear enough.

Four days after the finger prints were accepted, I received an email stating that I needed to fill out an affidavit for 3 different charges that occurred when I was 18, 19 and 22 (mind you this was 15 years ago). The charges at 18 and 19 were merely charges and there was never a conviction. The charge at 22 was later reduced to a lesser charge and I was convicted of a minor misdemeanor.

In the mean time while the background investigation was happening, I received a notice in the mail that Capital One requested a background on my credit as well as if there were any outstanding judgments against me, and the noticed stated that I passed all of those.

I received a phone call two business days after I turned in the affidavit about the charges, and was told that I cleared the background screening and I was set to start work.

I hope this helps ease some of your minds, and I understand that the lack of transparency and communication between the Capital One investigation team and yourself can be enough to cause you a small heart attack. But even with a few charges on your record, Capital One may still hire you.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'd like to second what you wrote, and add a little more.

From what I have gathered, they look for different things in the background check based on the position for which you've applied. It seems like some positions are far more forgiving than others after doing research in these forums. For example, my wife applied for a work at home customer service role. She has a misdemeanor DUI conviction from a few years ago, and she was cleared to start work within 4 days of submitting her fingerprints. There was no affidavit or anything required, nor any questioning of her charges. There was also no credit check, and if there was, it is not very stringent because her credit is horrible and has a recent bankruptcy on it.

So as you said, there is still hope for people with some bumps in the road in their history, at least in our experience.

What type of questions do they ask on the Interview for Capital one? I have an interview for a Special Point of Contact (mortgage) and I want to prep myself for the interview? Any feedback would be appreciated.
