KBR in iraq

I am being considered for a position as an MWR coordinator in Iraq with KBR. I want to talk with anyone who has/is working for KBR in Iraq. I need to know how you feel you are being treated, what are your living conditions like, are you glad you took the job, at which camp are you stationed, do you know anything about camp endurance in Qaiyarah?

Almost everyone lives in a trailer, usually without a roomate. You may have to share a bathroom. Each room is furnished and very much like a college dorm situation only better. I always had hot water, air conditioning and heat (if I wanted it).

Can you tell me what your job for KBR is? Have you been able to get the time off as stated? Do you really work all 7 days a week and 12 hour shifts?

you are NOT acually an employee of KBR, but rather an off-shore company that does not pay into the us system, so you can not draw unemployment benefits.
most of the employees have low work ethics

Experience has been you cannot be hired from outside the company as foreman. You will need to start at the bottom of your field and work your way up. Once you're in the company, you'll wait for a certain amount of time before you can be promoted.

We used KBR's website. My advise, apply for all jobs that you have even a slight interest in. I mean, hundreds of jobs. If you apply for just a few, you'll be overlooked. They get millions of applications daily, they go in a "pile" as they come in, you want your's on top, so apply for lots and lots of jobs on a daily basis!!!

You should be fine as long as you just do what you are told. Don't ask questions. Don't question any waste fraud and abuse issues. If you do raise the red flag on any issue expect to be chastised, probably threatened to be fired and most likely transferred to a less desirable location. Promotions are not based on merit and qualifications. They are based on loyalty and nothing more.

Cold in mornings and nights. Usually 70 in the day, but it will get colder and colder, maybe even snow. It starts to warm up again March/April.

KBR has no task orders as of right now in Afghanistan, Fluor is taking over part of it. Afghanistan task orders are in transition right now, Fluor gets on part of it and Dyncorps gets the other. So, KBR employees are being offered jobs with Fluor.

I worked in subcontracts for KBR in Iraq. That was in the days that employees lived in tents or homeless shelters. Out of all of the subcontracts administrators there I was one of a very few who knew what he was doing. That actually cost me my job as I tried everything to get the department running correctly. It was impossible. Too many incompetents and too many wooooose supervisors. I was made to transfer from Camp Slayer to a northern startup outpost as a reward for my efforts, which by the way were sometimes 112 hr weeks. I told them "no way" and left. Quite a while later I worked for Parsons in a separate camp in the green zone. Parsons had the best camp in Iraq and everybody knew it. State of the art. New private single person quarters with bathroom, AC/Heat, refrigerator, flatscreen tv, DVD player, high speed internet. Camp had a nice small dining hall, laundry, recreation center, library, mini nightclub. The office building was brand new and comfortable. There was a video store right outside the camp gate and a mini-mall right outside the other camp gate. Compared to KBR and Camp Slayer it was the Magic Kingdom.

I worked for Fluor for many years but never with them in Iraq or Afghanistan. A first class engineering and construction company. They appreciate their employees and demand only the best. I believe they will do it right in LOGCAP IV. I may just decide to go over there again, this time with Fluor, although I'm getting on in years.

Acouple of months ago I applied for a position with kbr. About 2 weeks ago a recruiter contacted me through email with a control specialist job opening in Iraq. I sent in all my paperwork passed my WABI and I was given a date to fly down to Houston for processing. Anyone know what types of exams or test are given in houston?

no there are not anymore test in houston. but make sure you have alot of money with you. although the hotel is free, the food is free. te odds are you are going to get stuck in quite a few places (dubai, kuwait etc,etc) and you're going to need money.

the reason people are getting stuck is because iraq is not issuing visas.

please be aware kbr is leaving out of iraq so you wont be here long because the project is ending soon. at my camp were going to tents, mres, no postal, no px, no chow hall in august. and then we are ither getting transferred to other kbr locations, fired, or switching companies.

i will try to keep this brief.
i am an electrician and i have been offered a position for KBR in Iraq.
i have completed all the forms required such as the dental release and now i am only waiting for my police background check to come back.
my recruiter has told me, once he recieves this it will be 2 to 3 weeks and i will fly to houston for processing.
can anybody please tell me if i have to do the WABI exam when i arrive and is there a test for electricians? if so, is it on the american regs or uk regs?
i only ask on this forum as i dont want to keep pestering my recruiter with many questions.

Completed all the forms, have sent in my police background check and dental forms.
have also obtained an ESTA, electronic system travel authority, which is in effect my visa and ive been cleared to travel to the US.
My issue is this, everything is in place, the system is showing action required on my police check.
on my police check there are 3 minor offences from over 10 years ago all in the military, my recruiter emailed the background dept who said it would be fine.
the system is still requesting action on it, my recruiter doesnt seem to know what this means and has emailed the background dept for clarification
, but the bottom line seems to be that the travel dept wont book my flights to Houston untill the system status changes.
have wound up my business in the UK on instruction from my recruiter and am sitting here waiting to go , now with no income.
Does anyone have any info on this, will the background dept just check the police check and authorise it on the system? as stated they are 3 very minor offences from over 10 years ago on my military record.

*How long from when you applied to when you got response and go to Houston?

*What are the qualifications you need I am commercial/domestic gas eng and can do all types of plumbing?

*Did you apply on KBR's US web site?

*Does x forces help with Appling?

*What tests have you done medicals stuff and CBR checks?

I did a profile for fluor.com. They have a lot of jobs on there they had a lot on there for food preparing food army. Do u have to have been in army to get a job overseas in Iraq or Afghanistan

Dorothy, it's not necessary to have a military experience to get a LOGCAP job in Afghanistan/Iraq, but if you have it it's only a plus for you and your chances to get a job are bigger than those who don't have it. And the other thing I want to tell you, that the job openings are for Food service specialist, not for Food service worker. In practice, you will need to start from the bottom of your field and work your way up. This means the chances to get a Food service specialist job as a starting position in your employment are not very big, even if this is under your qualification. Be up to date with the job openings, maybe they will be some for food service worker. Good luck!

you should take a criminal check background only for the last seven years as they need it as official document nothing more, i think then you`ll be fine.

I haven heard anything from fluor. I put a profile in months ago I heard anything . If someone can help me get a job please email me and let me no something . I clean up, food services, sterile instrument for doctors. I have my OSHA card, it don't matter Iraq or Afghanistan or where ever the jobs at.
