Nokia is very Socialist with their compensation. The salaries are very low and they try to convince you of all the fringe benefits they offer instead.
The bonus programs were competitive at one time but are now very "Enron" and corrupt since they are designed to pay out the folks making the decisions and punish the folks doing the work.
Travel Requirements are on par with other companies however they will stick you in a Ghetto hotel if you don't complain.
The best thing about working at Nokia is free cell phones and free cell phone plans. That amounts to about $1200/year + cost of the phone of your choice. So it's really not worth it.
They do have employee surveys that monitor employee moral and capture feedback. If you work with a good management team that's a great thing. If you're stuck in a organization ran by the idiots from Lotus in Boston or the Silicon Valley rejects in California, then it's a very bad thing since they punish the group that has survey results they don't like. Punishment can be anything from no or below inflation pay raises, repeated meetings with site managers until everyone agrees there really is NO problem and the survey results are off :)
