Every business has its own style. What is the office environment and culture like at R+l Carriers?

Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers?

What is a typical day in the life of an employee at R+l Carriers?

The culture at R & L Carriers at the Alexandria terminal is VERY hostile. The terminal manager's leadership style is that of an angry dictator that wants everything to be done perfect, while being too cheap to get his employees the tools they need to do a perfect job every night.

To be completely honest though, no one here needs to apply, unless you know someone who already works there. If you don't have a friend/family member there that is willing to vouch for you, the terminal manager, Tim Corcoran, will NOT hire you.

With all of that being said, the actual dock employees are a pretty great group of people. The environment is dirty, but fun. You are exposed to the elements there, and are in a big metal can. When it's 95 degrees out, it's 120 on the dock, and 130 in the trailers. When it's 10 degrees out, it's 10 degrees on the dock and in the trailers.

This terminal could be a great place to work with a terminal manager who actually deserved to be in his position, rather than someone who married the owners niece and received their position solely out of nepotism.

Warning Read: before you apply.
R and L is gritty LTL freight as it gets. Line haul line, claims ratios on damage freight, warehouses buildings are too small, flexibility in work and life are unacceptable. Overall company culture is really weak. Apply @ Old Dominion much better LTL company that has better values to its customers, and employees.

This company doesn't care about employees. Culture is really bad, R and L Carriers HR needs to investigate.

R and L Portland, OR is in clean house mode (Fired District Manager, Terminal Manager, Office Manager, Operations Manager, with turn over city). When R and L Portland moved to an bigger terminal in 2014 management didn't know how to run bigger terminal causing more stress to employees, and loss major national accounts. R and L Portland should take an field trip to Fed Ex Freight, and Old Dominion down the street and see how LTL Terminals are run safe, productive, and with up to date standard's. Warning don't apply to R and L Carriers until they catch-up to today's technology.
