How does RGIS Inventory Specialists stack up against the competition?

Management is very poor...They over schedule and then, call to tell you not to come in to work...People join them and then drop like flies because they get fed up with being treated so poorly. Once in a blue moon, there is a busy week, but most of the time, they seem to be hurting for business and often, they will travel up to 3 hours to inventory a store!...As we were told, it is "feast or famine" sometimes and we believe it!

I hate to say it, but this company is pretty much here to stay. They have poor management, and hire literally anyone with two arms and two legs, but the lack of competition is what helps them. WIS International is even more hopeless than the RGIS chumps, so RGIS bags most of the profitable retail stores. Stores like CVS, if RGIS does not make a 65 percent gross profit on the store or higher, it is considered a bad inventory! Most inventories at CVS has a 70 percent gross profit or higher. That is one hell of a lot of money! RGIS is on the map and here to stay, at least until there is some strong competition from WIS International.

RGIS is a company that dont like people who questioned them, in the District Office they talk about some pretty things like you get benefits, you get raised by production

But in the field they don't help you and some team so called leaders are very rude and annoying.

Right now im going to new jersey to work in construction and as the fellow people above, don't trust these people of RGIS.

I have worked for RGIS for over three years, if you have a positive attitude and want to work, you will get more jobs, most people start on their first job, after three hours, are asking how much longer, then complain when they dont get hours. yes it does slow down after august. but from jan. to july we do get 30 to 40 hours of work. I get called to cover other employees at all times and will never turn down a job. maybe having a positive attitude helps with this job.

I've been with RGIS for a number of years. They will be here forever since their only competition is WIS. Once in a while WIS underbids RGIS and there's a period where we don't count some stores that we used to count. Then we're back again and the store managers recognize the RGIS auditors and are really glad to see us. One of them said, after his experience with WIS, that WIS stands for "We Is Stupid". That's the customer talking ...

You can only keep a company operational if you can staff it.

Since an investment group bought enough stock from the founding family several years ago to take over decision-making, company policies have become so random, bizarre, and profit-oriented that they're driving away or firing many long-term, trained supervisory staff and employees.

The ones that remain live in fear of losing their jobs, & struggle with untrained, poorly paid counters who have no incentive to perform well because the goals set to achieve salary increases change before anyone can reach them. The quality of inventories are suffering, and the equipment being used is often barely functional. Because of the low wages offered, new hires are exceptionally unskilled, with health problems and transportation issues that compromise their dependability.

There's no formal evaluation process for anyone below area manager, and all are at the mercy of the district manager's discretion as to whether raises are given. The key here is that the DM gets a yearly bonus based on the profitability of his/her district, and to grant raises decreases the overall profitability of the district. You can draw your own conclusions here. Maintaining already trained staff isn't a concern- just slap some lower paid person into the position & you've increased the profit!

I actually enjoyed the job until the last several years, when the dynamics of the whole operation fell into the tydee-bowl.

The folks running the show are clueless. Don't know where they found them, or what they were doing before, but they trip over each other's feet attempting to increase the profitability of the company, while progressively destroying any existing workable structure.

At this rate, how long can it be before the whole operation falls on it's clueless butt?

WIS has been bought out by a Canadian inventory company. It remains to be seen who comes out on top.

There are other, smaller dogs coming to the bowl now (I will mention Southern Retail Inventory Service) (Google it). There are probably some other companies in your area.

It's like most retail - if you are not management, you will have a hard time living off this as your sole means of support. But if you are a student or self-employed and working inventories to supplement your income, this can be a good source of pocket money.

The company will thrive, though, as service companies are doing nowadays.

Hello,

I've been considering working part time out at my local RGIS location, and was curious what they pay thier inventory guys. I'm looking for anything that pays over minimum wage, and i'm okay with working my tail off to get it.

So, how much do the inventory takers get paid starting?

thanks,

Patrick

I think it depends on your district. Here we start at $9.00. I happen to work in a good district. We have a great DM and every single inventory I have been to, they have told us to take a break after 3 to 4 hours. I only work nights and weekends so I've only done two stores in one day on the weekends which hasn't bothered me at all. Some people get stuck in a bad district and that's when you hear about the complaints of no breaks or no hours. I basically get my 20 hours a week which is all I really want (and yes I turn down inventories on my schedule and do not get yelled at for doing that) I know slow season is coming up and around here they've made deals with certain retail stores where they will basically contract you out to be cashiers during christmas season so that you actually still get hours during their down time. (I think this is so you won't quit right before their busy time in January) I also work in a metro area and their are 3 districts here so if my district is slow, we'll go help out the other two districts. As far as the odd hours we work, they pretty much explain that to you coming into the job. If you don't want to work early hours or late evenings, then you really shouldn't work here because that's when the majority of the work is. Also it's pretty unpredictable on hour many hours an inventory will take. That depends on the store, the person running the store, and how many people actually show up to the inventory.

Just work for District 82, you'll find out what it's like to work for people who play favorites and keep experienced and good counters from working or being in charge. In fact, they take away supervisor positions without telling people. They give more work to inexperienced people who kiss up instead of actually putting their money where their mouth is. They also spoil their favorites with the most productive work they can basically screw people they don't like out of work. I find it rather disgusting--should I report it to the HR people in the main office?

This is not quite correct. I worked there for 7 years and they treat me like crap. However, they caused the poor attitude by taking away my job for no reason and giving it to a incompetent person and taking away jobs from me when I had a positive work ethic and wanted to work hard, but they only want people who kiss their behind rather than have a positive attitude toward working hard.

I worked for WIS when it was Washington--it was a much better job for me as they didn't complain so much about mistakes and whine when you don't tag exactly the way they want. Also, I was a pharmacy counter and did not have to work so hard and basically crap areas that bring no productivity. The work ethic is appalling at RGIS compared to Washington. Also, in our area WIS is taking a lot of our work away--must be because of how lousy it is managed--to give their friends the best areas.
It will stay around, but likely WIS will keep on taking away work as long as they can keep and hold a team in our area.

The company will stay but many people will come and go. I have worked with this company for neary 4 years now and have seen many ups and downs through those years. I have seen area managers that played favorites and DMs that liked to work the AMs 120+ hours a week as well lazy team leaders get kudos when they did nothing to deserve it. Since I first started things here have gotten waaaaay better. The AMs still play favorites sometimes but its kept under control through the Oracle scheduling program. Our current DM tries his best to keep us from working Night-Day shifts repeatably but it does happen sometimes. We have hired 5 new ATLs in the last 6 months to get rid of the general laziness that we have had with them or to replace the ones that have been promoted up to TL after we got rid of the ones that are no good. This, in my opinion, is one of the best jobs you can have for part-time work, if you get a good district that is.

I have been out of the work force for some time now, and this is one of the positions that has been recommended that I apply for. I must say that I'm not pleased with what I'm seeing, but that would not stop me from applying, as I need a job! Since I am clueless about this type of work, I was hoping someone here could tell me - fairly - what this job involves. I am also wondering about transportation - I haven't seen anything in this area, and I don't drive very much! Also, I was told that this is a sedentary position, (I have back & shoulder problems)but I'm seeing a much different story on here. I'm looking forward to your feedback!
Thanks!

Dear Sue52,
If you have back problems, you will be hurting, I did. I didnt last long. I drove myself, they said we could be a "driver" for others. In Maryland,DC they were nice lots of hours. 9 an hour. I counted products at Fine clothing stores, Circuit City, malls after hours. You have to put things back in place, there were alot of us. It just hurt my back too much! Good luck to you.

THIS JOB is a straight up joke of a job. they are only competing with one other company. yet they decide to compete for the lowest rates and in turn both companies make very little money. when it comes to business. in result of there competing business ways they must pay employees very poorly, give them no incentives at all. maybe a raise of FIFTY CENTS, like OOOOOOOOOOOO WHAT AN INCENTIVE. THE COMPANY IS TO LAME AND POOR TO PAY ANY BENEFITS OR EVEN GIVE PEOPLE FULL TIME HOURS ON A REGULAR BASIS, THERE FOR EVERYONE MUST STRUGGLE. YET THEY WILL MAKE YOU TRAVEL FOR HOURS JUST TO COUNT ONE LITTLE TINY STORE OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE FOR 2 HOURS OF WORK PAY AND 4 HOURS OF TRAVEL PAY AT MINIMUM WAGE. EITHER WAY ANYONE THAT WORKS FOR RGIS AND WANTS TO GET AHEAD IN LIFE, WELL I SUGGEST THAT YOU EITHER JUST QUIT OR FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO THAT MAKES U MONEY ON THE SIDE. I DO NOT WORK FOR RGIS ANY MORE. ALL MY FRIENDS DO AND I ALWAYS HAVE TO HEAR ABOUT THE COMPANY FROM THEM. I JUST LAUGH WHEN THEY TELL ME ABOUT ALL THE DRAMA NONSENSE WITH RGIS. HAHAHAHAHA ITS SUCH A JOKE OF A BUSINESS THAT IT ACTUALLY MAKES ME LAUGH TO THINK THAT THE PEOPLE AT HEAD OFFICE AND ALL THOSE OTHER BIG WIGS WITH THERE HEADS UP THERE BUTTS ACTUALLY THINK THEY ARE IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN SOCIETY. How does RGIS Inventory Specialists stack up against the competition?

Interesting question. One method to determine how a company stacks up against the competition is to use metric indicators. Metric indicators may mean anything related to analytics, internet rankings, website traffic, and overall value of the company.

To do this, I used Alexa.com and Compete.com, both powerful tools use to rank site traffic, analytics, rankings, and revenues. Data being gathered using these tools are current as of January 2010. OK, lets see how RGIS competes with another provider WIS:

RGIS
----------------------------------------------------------
Unique Visitors........................... 23,620 (-35.73%)
Overall Visits............................ 37,251 (-17.64%)
Compete Rank.............................. 74,466 (-24559)
Employees................................. 41,000 from 45,000

WIS Intl
----------------------------------------------------------
Unique Visitors.............................54,605 (+35.41%)
Overall Visits..............................359,615 (+65.01%)
Compete Rank................................34,960 (+10,807)
Employees................................... 11,000 from 9,000

WIS increased employment by 2,000 while RGIS looses employees by 4,000. Under Unique Visitors, RGIS has dropped to -35.73% while WIS has increased its unique visitors to +35.41%. RGIS also has decreased with the overall visits of -17.64% while WIS has gaining +65.01% visits. On ranking, WIS now ranked #34,960 from #45,767, while RGIS is trailing behind at 74,466 from #49,907.

What's going on Mr. Paul Street? It appears that it is eating the dust of the competition. If these data will continue without change this year, it will create wrong signals detrimental to the overall standing of RGIS.

I worked for RGIS for 9 years, and was lied to several times by my DM's the worst was being told to sign a form stating that I called my DM by some name which was a lie and there was no one to talk to about the matter. I am also disappointed in this company terminating my job with no proper explanation, I was told one time that my store was one of the stores that went long and few other names were called for doing worst than me but I was surprised to know when I was terminated I was told that my store was the worst store and they had to let me go. I was also surprised one time Operation walked into a meeting and asked me in front of everyone your project is going out what is your intention now. That is so unprofessional for any one, when questioned his answer was I was just joking. Head of operations lied to me more than once and I know when someone wants to keep their jobs, that is what they do.
