Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Wellpoint? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Wellpoint? |

Dress style is basically "look like a slob". There is a dress code, but most emps just wear jeans and sneakers. This company would win no awards for looking anywhere near stylish. And when the managers have to dress up for some reason, the ties are especially outdated. |

WellPoint is casual, however I do not agree with "look like a slob", at least not in the two St Louis offices. Jeans are worn, as well as sneakers, in most cases tastefully. Management cleans up very nicely, yet they typically dressed more business casual on a normal day. |

horrible!! you won't get anywhere on what you know - it's all about who likes you, no the work you perform... |

Monica- Do you currently work in one of the St. Louis offices? I was hoping to move closer to home as I currently work at a hospital and it takes me 45 + minutes to get there (on a good day). Do they have an office by south county mall? I heard that the St. Louis office is a pretty decent place to work...any comments? |

I am thinking about applying for a position with WellPoint in St. Louis. Can anyone give me insite on the work ethics? Can anyone comment if you absolutely love your job or hate it? Any suggestion would be appreciated. |

I've heard not so good things about Wellpoint in this forum. Is there anyone who is not in a call center position who can provide positive feedback? |

I have worked at the Newbury Park location and have felt that the hiring process was fair. The applicant that interviewed with me did not get hired because she was not qualified. She in my objective opinion was attractive. This company employs different people from different cultural back grounds that I find are also very qualified to do the job they were hired to do. I really feel that my manager is fair, honest and clear about her expectations. If you are not meeting the expectation of the job then it is reasonable to assume that you may be terminated from that position. It is the same EVERYWHERE....
The dress code is casual but you will be asked to go home for the day if your attire is in violation of the company’s dress code (which I’ve seen)

Part - 1: I started with the company a few months ago. For years I've wanted to work for this organization. After a few weeks, I have found that my personality does not fit with the culture of the department. I have been told that I don't share (I have to assume my knowledge), I'm looking as though I am not a team player (Which I've never heard that is all the positions I've every had). It appears that I'm not allowed to be successful in my accomplishments; it appears to bother other employees. Within the few weeks that I've been with the company I've been told the following: ⢠"Everyone else is over here and you are way over there, you come over here to play with us and then you return over there, you don't seem to be a team player"
On the positive side, I've been told I'm smart and I'm a role model, I've done good for myself, and I write very well. Iâve tried to be patient however, each week it appears to become worse. I have always been an outstanding employee, with no blemishes (Iâm not perfect, but I have always been willing to go the extra mile for any customer, member, client, etc.) A few associate have come to me asking for my assistance with the thought of teaching the associates things that are of a very technical nature. I have explained that I am unable to teach what they need, my suggestions have been to take classes, purchase material, âGoogle questionsâ or join a forum. Iâm told Iâm not being a team player. Again, I am being told that my actions appear that I am not a team player; I feel that I have to be on guard at all times I come to work everyday wondering whose toes Iâm stepping on, whose feeling I may be hurting, |

Part - II
As much as I would love to remain in the organization to To assist in making a difference in the lives of others
This paragraph is to address an issue that another Associate had with me as it relates to sharing: The technical knowledge that I have obtained has been learn through my education and 20+ years in the work field. What I have learn as it relates to my education is that we were taught the basics of, "How to think", the rest of our ability was left up to us as individuals, if we wanted more in the way of knowledge, we had to take the initiative, be determined and motivate ourselves (my more was to help others) I take it as a complimented when I'm told, I've done good for yourself. - My intent is to keep it that way. What I have is something that is impossible to give way; however, I can share only my thoughts. I am a very serious person by nature, I love to work and make a difference in others lives, with that said my personality doesn't fit the department's culture. I need to continue to work in an environment where I can continue To be creative thus getting the job done above and beyond expectations without breaking any rules and/or regulations;
To allow my education, qualifications, knowledge and skills to continue to make a difference in the lives of others, without having to explain step-by-step how I mentally, physically and emotional process my thoughts, while staying organized. I took this position because I wanted to return to healthcare however unless the organization will allow me to move to another depa |

It is a megalith company so it depends on what you want. Most likely, youâll be working in a large building where you will have execs, professionals, call center personnel and mailroom all in one. The point is that all of the blend winds up making it hard to say âeveryone must wear suitsâ so youâll get a mix of everything. There are office politics like anywhere and some departments/managers are better than others. If you are in IT, the culture is this: Leave. As blunt and disgruntled as that sounds it is true. Yes, I was laid off six months ago. That said, I can think of roughly 40 people with whom I worked who were in IT there as of a year ago. Today, over half of them no longer work there, many others remain at WLP but left IT andâI mean this quite literallyâthere is only one of the handful still in the same job that I have any reason to believe is not looking elsewhere (many have explicitly told me they are). This means that quite possibly over 95% of the IT people I knew 12 months ago are gone or are trying to be gone. |

Whoa, interesting comments on both sides of the coin. I applied as a Referral Specialist about 10 days ago & received a link to take a few online tests, now my application says it's in the "initial screen" stage, does anyone know what this stage consists of 7 how long it lasts before you're called or denied? Thanks |

WELLPOINT SUCKS! Ive been with them for 6 years, and just quit today. They have NO regard for human life, or the public. Angela Braly just wants $$$$$$$$$$. That's all it is about. Look for something more fulfilling. |

Yes, I will admit to tough times and yes it is still a business that has to be profitable. Each day I see my co-workers rise to the challenge of trying to truly help people and others who simply do not care. Wellpoint is still a business and Angela Braley may make a lot of money but the CEO of Aetna makes way more. I just gave a view from my perspective. It's so easy to trash a company online but I think that each person will have a different experience based on their attitude on the job. The pay is competitive and benefits are awesome. The only thing that I have problems with is the parking... |

There is only one word to describe being laid off at Anthem. RELIEF!! |
|
K in Denver, Colorado 6 months ago |
I am being told by this site to be polite and to be reasonable when making comments that you can read about Anthem/Wellpoint. Those are the two worse words that are present. Basically, they are saying DON'T tell you ( as the general public) the truth about them. OK.. As a former BC/BS employee in Honolulu for 7 years! ( of which they were GREAT ). I should have stayed there. Moved to Denver, CO. 8 years later took a Temp position with Anthem/Wellpoint. Had the job for 10 months. Watched all the crazy changes they made. Did they care about their customers? "NO". I was being paid to lie my way through call over their "IDIOT" billing system. I was never more professionally ashamed. Tons of customers totally Pissed off. Customers were dropping their Insurance with this company "like crazy". In June, 2012, they tell all of us, both temps and reg employees, they are outsourching to Manila. I am still working there at this point..yet knowing I have to make a move away soon. Found out 3.5 months later, they were handing over the last 10 ( out of the original 22 employees) to another "hot frying skillet" of a horrible young manager. Since I worked for another BC/BS, i tried to get hired on by another Dept there. The horrible Management witches found out about that..and got rid of me a Temp/Contractor real quick. I worked for a great Temp Agency. Even the lady that helped me get this job knew what they were doing..and felt really bad that "these so-called go for nothing" B's should not even had their jobs at Anthem. Unless you are a great A-licker while knowing that you will still become a part of their "waste-management"..then you go right ahead and see how long you last there at 700 Broadway ( 4th Floor ), Denver, CO. Don't go there and try to work if you are decent person. |

The company culture in my unit was able flying under the radar, avoiding the manager, feeling uncomfortable asking a question, and keeping your mouth shut as much as possible. People were overworked and very stressed. Job requirements keep changing, and it was variable how well the new requirements were communicated. Endless meetings as well. I was disposed of for unknown reasons, although they called is 'unsatisfactory performance.' I think the real reason was they found out how old I was. Of all the places I have worked, this has got to be the most damaging to my psyche, and the pain of this just goes on and on and on. |
