Cover Letters

I've been laid off for almost a year now...I've applied for jobs but no one gets back to me. I was told to write a simple cover letter but my friend told me I needed a little bit more detail to my cover letter. What do employers want? Do they want just a simple cover letter or a little more detailed cover letter?

My cover letter is this:

RE: __________

To Whom It May Concern:

In response to your job for a full time __________ on __________, attached is my resume for your review and consideration.

I look forward to meeting with you and discussing the position in detail.

Is this too short?

Three paragraphs consisting of three or four tightly written sentences should do it for your cover letter. Obviously, use nothing less than a gracious, professional, positive tone. Finally, do NOT forget to proofread your letter carefully and check spelling, even if your word processor has spellcheck. Get help if you doubt your proofreading abilities.
