Hi Wandab,
I recieved my certification through the NHA. The test is 200 questions and cost $150. If you pass the test you will be certified in CCMA, CET,and CPT. You will recieve the CCMA certificate automatically, if you want the CPT, and CET certificates, you will have to send the NHA an additional $38.

Thanks for your reply. So you have had no problems with the certification being legit? They offer a home study refreshers course I want to take prior to taking the exam. I will be living here in Michigan until Jan. 2009 and moving to Orlando Forida and don't want to have any problems. I want to work in OB and go back to school for an ultrasound tech, just don't want to waste money I could have used for some pre-req classes.

Thanks again.

National Healthcareer Association is a legitimate organization so no one should worry about their legitimacy. Their wikipedia article is comprehensive and they work with DANTES www.dantes.doded.mil/dantes_Web/library/docs/certification/NHA.pdf

NHA / The National Healthcareer Association exam is different and i think its more relevant, also the NHA exam has phlebotomy and EKG certification as part of the exam, I am an instructor and i like to have my students come out of the exam with Multiple skills/ certifications as they get that from the CCMA exam!/so my answer is NHA exam is better..

If I have no experience in the field but have some knowledge of the material, Is the NHA's study guide enough to pass the test? If not, what other material is recommended?

Thanks,

I though AAMA was the certification you get from an accrediate school and NHA was from one that was not? More employers, through my job search in Raleigh, NC has requested having the AAMA certification before applying....I am looking into schools now for CMA....

I have taught Medical Assistant classes in NY, NJ, Florida and Texas and have always used the N.H.A C.C.M.A Certification (the exam is just so much more relevant)
for my students, its more widely accepted and the multiple Certifications they get
the one exam makes them more Marketable...I have used them since around 1997.

I GRADUATED FROM A SCHOOL THAT WAS APPROVED AS A TESTING SITE FOR NHA
NATIONAL HEALTHCAREER ASSOCIATION.
AND GOT CERTIFIED BY THEM, THE CERTIFICATION HELPED ME OBTAIN A REALLY GOOD POSITION IN THE HOSPITAL. IT REALLY IS A NICE CAREER CHANGE. I REALLY LIKE BEING A CCMA I AM TOLD THAT THIS JOB WILL BE GROWING A LOT IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS. IF YOU HEAR THE PRESIDENT TALK ABOUT NEW JOB GROWTH CCMA IS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST ALONG WITH PHLEBOTOMY, ADMINISTRATIVE MEDICAL ASSISTANTS AND BILLING AND CODING SPECIALIST. I WILL BE GOING BACK TO SCHOOL TO BECOME A CERTIFIED BILLING AND CODING SPECIALIST CBCS(NHA) IN JUNE, THE MORE CERTIFICATIONS THE MORE VALUABLE I WILL BE.HEALTH CARE IS THE WAY TO GO IF YOU WANT TO MAKE YOURSELF RECESSION PROOF.

Since you are a instructor could you tell me if I am better off money wise to take a MA course at my Community College and get my certifications through NHA?
I am currently looking into Hohokus school (Eastwick College) and they offer everything there; clinicals, all certifications etc.)
but the fee for the 9 month course is $14,000!.
Do you feel the courses would be better at the hohokus school?
I realize school accreditation is the important issue but the education I am getting is also a concern for the money.
Any information you can give me would be appreciated!

I would go to the comunity college!!!! Save the 9,000.00 dollars

Some career schools are very good, but you should do your homework and check out
all Medical Assistant programs. If you find it cheaper and it offers National Certification (as I mentioned I prefer NHA)then that would be good. I don't hold a lot of weight on a school being accredited or not, I have worked at accredited and non accredited schools and don't really see a major difference as long as a career school is state approved.Once again do your homework because you dont want to be overwhelmed in student loans when you graduate.Good Luck

National Healthcareer Association Certification covers Two Years but you need to Maintain your Credits each year(5 credits) and every two years you get a new card for another 2 years. I find that The NHA offers an easy way to get re-certified and get credits by offering CE booklets...
