I also bought an AAPC practice test which was very similar to the actual exam. Between both resources I passed the CPC on my first try. Definitely recommend either one. |

valentine in Salt Lake City, Utah said: Hi Hi I took the test for the first time a passed...The pre exams and the actual exam are somewhat the same but the actual exam is more lengthy. Just make sure you answer your shortest questions first and mark the ones you have to go back to. Very important to time yourself on the testing. You will do fine.. Good luck |

Getting more credentials will not necessarily help you find a job if you do not have any experience. Most new grads think that if they have a slew of initials after their name, it will ensure finding a job, but that is not the case if you still do not have an experience behind them. Try to gain some medical experience, become more familiar with ICD 9, CPT and reimbursement by finding an entry level job, in medical records, billing, data entry or front desk. after you get experience, leverage for a coding job. inpatient coding is very difficult, which means the CCS is extremlely difficult to pass, especially without any experience. you would be better off working your way up to the CCS. |

My only advice to taking the exam, is follow the books, not what you know from various carriers Medicare does not exist (therefore consultations do), get the idea? For people who have worked the industy and know the carriers and their tweaks, it might be more difficult than someone who just got out of school or training for the certifications. |

The concept is similar but after 3 hrs, when u tired adn loose focus, thats when u start making lots of errors, cuz the questions start semi easy to hard and harder and at peak time u still got another 2 hrs to go thats when u hit E/M, even more frustrating.... |

The carol buck book really helped as did the practice tests from AAPC. |

I have had good luck with indeed's job search, but unless you have experience, most employers are not going to hire you. your best bet is to try to get a job elsewhere in HIM, such as medical records, billing, data entry or even front desk. gain experience and then leverage it for a coding job. |

I thank you all for replies, I'm very scared about this CPC test no offense that many people failed that bothers me. I'm still in school and expecting to finish by October. I don't want to fail bcoz I don't have that kind of money to keep paying for retakes. How much is the test anyway? and do you have to pay again if you fail it?, at the same amount of money? Thank you guys.. |

How much is the test anyway? and do you have to pay again if you fail it?, at the same amount of money? Thank you guys.. You have to become a member first which is $120.00 for a year. Then you must submit an application for examination with a $300.00 fee. This fee gives you two opportunities to sit for the exam (1 free re-take). If you don't pass on the second try you must re-pay the $300.00 fee. If you do pass the CPC exam you are required to obtain 19 CEUs each year and re-new your membership ($120.00) each year. More details about the application proces, costs, exam layout, etc. can be found here www.medicalbillingandmedicalcoding.com/cpcexam.html Good luck! |

Time yourself as you go. While it is tough, it is doable. |

LOL 1)Answer the short ones and the ones you know first 2)If skipping an answer make sure you skip it on your bubble sheet 3) Don't use the index. Take the 4 options you are given and go straight to the tabular 4) Knowing your modifiers can sometime help rule out 2 or the 4 pretty quickly Good luck! |

I know of a great way to prepare for the exam. It's a video blitz series. Instead of laboring through a bunch of books you can watch all the sections on the computer or on the dvd. picz.us/cpcexamprep Check it out and let me know what you think. |

Just a heads up to anyone looking to take the CPC exam, you will probably need some exam prep material. Check out Laureen Jandroep's DVD/Video blitz series. It will definitely help. Here is the link: picz.us/cpcexamprep. Let me know what you think. |

I am planning on taking the CPC exam in April. I wanted to know what are the most important things to study for the exam. I went to school for Medical billing and coding and have books they gave me to help study. I just wanted to know what not to waste my time on and focus on the things that are on the exam. |

This response is for Rak in Reading, PA. You need not have any previous work experience in Medical Billing and Coding to take the CPC exam. However, it will help you if you go to a community college and take a certificate in Medical Billing and Coding before taking the exam. Because you need to have excellent knowledge of Basic Medical Terminology, Advanced Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Law and Insurance, Medical Billing, CPT-4 and ICD-9-CM. The exam is brutal (I am not trying to scare you. That is my opinion. A lot of people will agree with me.) You should be a member of AAPC before taking the exam. Total time allotted is 5hrs 40 minutes. 150 questions. Passing grade is 70% which means maximum number of incorrect answers should not exceed 45. Hope this helps. You may go to www.aapc.com to get more information.

Hey jintrieri - One of the major concerns from people taking the CPC exam is time. Many don't complete the entire exam or end up guessing on the last 20 or 30 questions. This addresses the time management component. medicalcodingexamsystem.com |
