Can you suggest any tips or insights to develop your patient care assistant expertise?
First is Pt. Safty. Make sure pt. has a way to call for asistance (call light). Lets say pt. wants to get up out of bed. They use call light and you do not get to pt right away. Pt gets them self out of bed, fall and break a hip.
Second. Treating the pt. with rsepect, dinaty and privacy when careing for them.
Third. Have the pt. do as much as she/he can. For example when you are assisting in feeding a pt.; have them do as much as they can (picking up a glas of juice by them selves, using an eatting utencle is some help from you the care giver.
Rember the pt. is a person. The pt. (most likely) was totaly independent once upon a time and now needs help. Also never talk down to or lie to a pt. with memory probles, coma...
I can go on but will end with this. Good pt. care is very important to me. I will do what ever I can do to make my charges happy, safe, comfortable and secure. What if the pt. was you. What would you want in a care giver.
