Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing?

Where are the jobs? Which places have the most purchasing agent opportunities?

same here. i've been in purchasing for 24 years, mostly in high-tech and aerospace, and i can't find anything that will pay the bills. there are low-level jobs, but they don't pay enough to meet my needs, and companies aren't even acknowledging receipt of resumes, much less hiring!

I have been in purchasing for over 20 years. I have found a couple of jobs. I recently went on an interview that I was told I was in the top three candidates out of 520 applications. I was told my skills and abilities were below all the employees they have now and was asked if I could accept $15.00 per hr. Sorry, that won't feed the bulldog. If the public has no money to spend than companies have no money to buy. Just walk into almost any retail store and they still have xmas items for sale in FEb.. Companies are going to empty out their warehouses before they will replintish inventories.

Reading these posts isn't encouraging. I was in purchasing for 5 years, and am going to school for business management hoping to continue in purchasing. Guess I should have picked degree.

I though once if you had a college degree and 30 plus years in
purchasing companies would be available and jobs not so anymore only room
for the skilled workers in america and the ceo's.

Unfortunately I must agre with most of the posts here. I have 25 years experience and have been out of work for 6 months. Many, many focused resumes sent with only 2 in-person interviews. I am looking to do something different if possible. What a crapper, I am good at what I do, and as a matter of fact can shift between a couple of different fields due to my related experiences: but still can't get a job. I didn't expect to ever be in the same position as I was before when I only had a high school education. College, experience.....zip. It's frustrating.

I have over 20 years of experience and have been out of work or one year and 3 months; I loved procurement but it seems as though the field is going to temporary position without benefits. I have a BA in business but now I'm thinking about a different field.

Why is the industry purchasing shrinking? Is it because of technology ? Are companies passing the purchasing role and responsability to other administrators, specialist, profesionals in the workforce.

In the healthcare - hospitals I see nurses, techs having that additional role.

Honestly, I have seen much more success than lots of other people. But I have been networking VERY hard! I graduated two months ago and I have been blessed. I am also open to ther supply chain opportunities because of the economy. Until I started to focus on purchasing things were getting difficult for me. I have 3 interviews next week and they all seem VERY interested. One has hinted that they will give me an offer and one other has hinted they are highly interested. Contact me on linkedin.com and I hope I can help encourage you. Antonio Beasley in Louisville, KY

I believe with all my might that the purchasing field still has niche areas of interest that abound with expansion and growth. The realist cannot stand on the merits and achievements of the past however. You must be willing to go back to school and get education and credentials in the form of certificates or degrees. You can never be too well-informed, knowledgeable, or smart at what you do so you can be abundantly attractive for your next employer. For the many that have been at this endeavor for a full career, you must be willing to show you have updated aptitudes and attributes. Keep up the diligent effort in order to find the results that satisfy you.

I have a BS in Operations Mgmt and 10 years of experience in various industries. It seems to me that there are tons of buyer jobs open in Michigan. I've been looking for about 1 month and I've had a tremendous response to my resume. In fact I had 5 interviews this week alone. I just wanted to let you know that it is still possible to find good buyer jobs.
