How did you get your start doing research assistant work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

Do you need a particular educational background?

It is hard to try to get a research job without a Master's Degree unless you know someone. I recently graduated with a chemistry degree and started volunteering at a local hospital, where I met a surgeon that offered me a research job, he says that it will make my medical school application stronger.

This can be a very frustrating experience for a recent graduate, unless you have set yourself some good leads throughout undergrad. As biochem415 mentioned, connections are the key to obtaining any possition. Although you might have great credentials and be confident in your abilities, unless you have an in for a possition the market is competitive, and will drain you of your patience. Send out emails, volunteer, start early in entry level positions, and just make CONNECTIONS!
