I run a Security Company in South Carolina I currently have offices in Tampa, Orlando South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Maryland. The best adivse I can think of is to find the people in your area that have alot of contacts and get to know them, when I started it was just me and a few officers, I took on a few "partners" and got some really BIG accounts. Figure out what people need and sell them on it. Always give quality not quantity. A roving patrol is the best money maker I have right now.

Good luck on getting contracts over the internet. You have to go out and door knock to get clients or have meetings with monitoring centres. Good luck!!!

NOTED THIS IN MIAMI AS I WORKED SECURITY FOR 30 YEARS;;(BLOG-SPEAKS);THERE APPEARS TO BE PROBLEMATIC CLIENTS WHO ARE BOUNCING JOB APPLICATIONS THROUGH"HEAD-HUNTERS" WHO PRESCREEN, AND THEN PASS APPLICANT ON TO CLIENT.WHAT I SUSPECT IS THAT THESE CLIENTS ARE "DOG CONTRACTS"..CLIENTS WHO RUN GUARDS THROUGH THEIR COMPANY, OFTEN EXPECTING WAY-TO-MUCH SERVICES( SOME, ARE OFTEN NOT RELATED TO SECURITY, BUT ACTUAL COMPANY CHORES WHICH NO ONE WANTS TO DO FOR SO LITTLE MONEY, OR ELSE REALLY BAD ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS LIKE NO RESTROOM ACCESS, OR WAY TO HOT A CLIMATE,ETC) TO BE RENDERED. THESE "DOG-CLIENTS" OFTEN HIRE-AND-FIRE GUARDS IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR WORTH OR PERFORMANCE..AND THE MANAGEMENT SOMETIMES I-S THE PROBLEM..PERSONALITY POISON PERSON!WHEN THE AGENCY GETS TIRED OF THIS GUARD "MASS-EXTINCTION"' THEY DROP THE CONTRACT...AND IT GOES FROM ONE AGENCY TO ANOTHER...WITH A "HEAD-HUNTER " PRE-SCREENING PHONE AGENCY DOING THE CULLING AND SHILLING FOR THE CLIENT TEMPORARILY. IT REMAINS A "POISON-DOG CONTRACT", AND NOTHING CHANGES. IF YOU SUSPECT THIS IS THE CASE, DEMAND TO SPEAK TO AT LEAST TWO FORMER GUARDS THAT THE CLIENT TERMINATED, AND IF HE REFUSES...YOU REFUSE TO WASTE ANYMORE OF YOUR PRECIOUS TIME IN THE LITTLE CON-GAME! GO ON TO YOUR BETTER INTERVIEWS, ELSEWHERE. ( I AM 4 U ALL! )

They want to know the exp. your company has and what you can do to help them also when selling your company dont ramble on cause it starts to sound like exscuses also hold your head high and talk in a clear voice and if you dont have an answer for a question dont lie tell them you will find out and update them i hope this works for you.

Byron in California in Phoenix, Arizona said: I have been in security for 23 years. The most important factor in quality security is how the company treats its guards. The guards protect you, not the company. Remember that. Believe nothing any guard company salesman tells you. They are no different then any used car salesman. You best bet is in a in-house force always. For those of you asking about getting contracts, treat your guards well and THEY will find business for you. Because I am professional, well trained and well spoken..I have had MANY people offer me jobs or ask my advice about hiring a contractor while on duty. I would have given the business to my company (Securitas) but because they treat their people so poorly I sent them elsewhere. Your reputation among your employees is your greatest sales point.
(RAND RINZ AMPLIFIES AND COMMENTS ON THIS BLOG:)YOU ARE "DEAD-AIM" CORRECT ABOUT YOUR STEERING LEGITIMATE CKIENTS IN NEED OF COMPETENT SECURITY AWAY FROM SECURITAS! I WORKED FOR THEIR ACQUIRED COMPANIES-BURNS, PINKERTON, AND WELLS FARGO-FORSOME 13 TEARS; ALL THE BAD CRAP OF THOSE AGENCIES, WAS PICKED UP AND MADE EVEN MORE INEPT AND UGLY BY THE CORPORATE SLOTHS THAT GOBBLED UP ALL COMPETITION IN THE INDUSTRY! NOW-GUARDS ARE STILL IN POVERTY, STILL ABUSED AND DISRESPECTED BY MIDDLE-MANAGERS AND CLIENTS---AND THE GUARDS NEED BETTER CONTRACTS; MORE DIVERSE CLIENTS, AND A LOT MORE FIREPOWER AND PROYECTION FROM THEIR OFFICE FILES BEING STUFFED WITH MINOR GARBAGE THAT SHOULD NOT BE THERE-OR SHOULD BE ALLOWED A CHALLENGE TO IT'S ARBITRARY DAMAGES TO ONE'S REPUTATION!THE INDUSTRY UNDER OUT-SOURCING COMPANIES LIKE SECURITAS, G-4'S AQUIRED PIG-SLIME, WACKENHUT, AND ALLIED/BARTON-ARE NOT PROVIDING MEANINGFUL CAREERS OR SECURITY PROTECTIVE SERVICES. I SUGGEST HIRING OLD-TIME GUARDS, AND CUT THE CRAP OUT OF BANNING AND LABELING GUARDS AS TRASHED-FOR-LIFE BECAUSE THEY DON'T AGREE WITH THESE AGENCIES AND THEIR MINDLESS,LOGIC-BENDING RULES! NUFF SAID!

YOU KNOW-WE SENIOR GUARDS HAVE NOT ONLY A RIGHT, DUE TO OUR TENURE AND EXPERIENCES, BUT AN OUTRIGHT DUTY TO OTHER GUARDS, WHO ARE NEWER IN THE INDUSTRY----TO BE NAKEDLY BRASS AND CANDID ABOUT BOTH THE GOOD AND UGLY ASPECTS OF THE INDUSTRY! IT IS NOT SO MUCH PERSONAL POLITICS, AS IT IS SAFETY AND REAL CAREER ISSUES---SUCH AS TYPE OF CONTRACTS, PERSONAL SAFETY, AND RESPECT. A CASE IN POINT; 50 STATE SECURITY, IN MIAMI, FLORIDA-THINKS IT CAN TAKE ON A HUGE METRO-RAIL CONTRACT AND MEET IT'S MANPOWER NEEDS BY SUB-SOURCING TO SMALL STORE-FRONT AND MINOR PLAYER GUARD AGENCIES UNDER A MULTI-FLAG OPERATION. ONE PROBLEM-THE WACKENHUT PREDECESSOR COULD NOT MAINTAIN THE CONTRACT, AND FRAUD WAS RAMPANT----AND THESE ENTITIES ARE DRAWING ON A LESSER POOL OF GUARDS, WITH LESS EXPERIENCE-AND TRYING TO OFFER LESS WAGES! SIMPLY-IT W-O-N'-T W-O-R-K! NEITHER WILL THE HIRED GUARDS----FOR LONG. THE CONSTANT RECRUITMENT, EVEN IF THEY OFFER DOUGHNUTS ON SATURDAY'S AT THEIR "LITTLE TEA-PARTIES"-CANNOT OVERCOME DWINDLING RESOURCES CRAMMED INTO LARGE, PROBLEM-FROUGHT, MULTI-SOURCED CONTRACTS. THE CITIZENS AREN'T GETTING GOOD EXPERIENCED STAFF, AND THE STREETS OF MIAMI ARE GETTING MEANER AND MORE DANGEROUS! MY ADVICE-GO FOR SMALLER CONTRACTS, DIVERSIFY, ESTABLISH THE 1-ON-1 RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR GUARD STAFF---AND TALK AND LISTEN TO THE ISSUES ON A DAILY BASIS. IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE!

Is it just me....

Why is it a majority of these posts are from OWNERS of a security company, yet the OWNER doesn't have basic grammer skills such as writing and spelling??? If you are an owner of a company who is in charge of the entire company, shouldn't you be able to spell and write correctly.

Secondly, why would someone start a company, any company, and not know how to get contracts, clients, customers, etc? If you are going to start a company, shouldn't you do your homework before hand and find out where you are going to get your income from??

As a owner of a Security firm I will state this. I can understand the interest in the lower apparent cost of an in-house program. One consideration is that you will need to develop a training program. In addition, with an in-house program, you have all the liability and risk exposure. That said - the fastest growing litigation in the U.S. right now is negligent security. That litigation usually result from either indiscriminately reducing coverage hours or saving a few dollars by hiring a poorly trained, but inexpensive security force

When I worked in corp sales, it was on commission, 15%. I was #2 in the national sales standing, so I quit to make 20% with #3 in the country.

If you are good, they'll agree or go elsewhere. You can also sell contracts for more than one company. ie: patrol services for one, CCTV for another, mall guards, etc.

Keep in touch. tppatriot at g mail I'll give you all the help I can. Do your best.

BELIEVE IT AS TRUE-AS MANY GOOD LOGICAL TIPS AND OBSERVATIONS AS I HAD OVERLOOKING THE WHOLE GUARD INDUSTRY---I ALSO HAD A RIPE TEMPER AND A CLASSIC DISDAIN FOR MANAGEMENT FOOLISHNESS-AND OFTEN TOLD OFF THE UPPER MANAGEMENT IN VERY COLORFUL VERBAGE----SUCH AS ONE HARVEY CRUZ, WHO WAS AN INTERIM OFFICE MANAGER AT SECURITAS SECURITY IN MIAMI. HE WAS "IN-AND-OUT OF THE POSITION LIKE A FETID WEST-WIND; AND AT MY TERMINATION, I TOLD HIM TO LOOK AT THE NATURE OF THE LITTLE SLIDING REMOVABLE NAME PLATE ON HIS DOOR----EASILY REMOVED BECAUSE THOSE OFFICE MANAGERS ARE ON THEIR WAY TO A DIFFERENT JOB REAL QUICK! PROVED PROPHETIC IN HARVEY;S CASE---HE WAS ON TO CITIBANK TO DO THIS-AND-THAT WITH THEIR SECURITY OR SOMETHING. HE HAD TIME TO FIRE ME, AFTER 30 YEARS IN THE THE INDUSTRY---BUT HE WAS A TENT IN THE THE DESERT, AND KNEW NOTHING ABOUT SECURITY OR MY REAL WORTH IN THE INDUSTRY. I DOUBT HARVEY LASTED MUCH OF ANY DURATION ANYWHERE---HE HAD NO UNDERSTANDING, NO ABILITY TO LISTEN, AND PASSED JUDGMENT LIKE A COW PASSES GAS.THESE ARE THE TYPES OF MANAGERS THE INDUSTRY CAN EASILY DO WITHOUT. SORRY, HARVEY:YOUR "STINK" WILL REMAIN ON THE INTERNET FOR ALL ETERNITY---AND YES, I CAN DO IT!

P.S. HARVEY; WHAT DID YOU N-O-T UNDERSTAND ABOUT SUPERVISOR DAN TAYLOR AND HIS VIOLATIONS OF, NOT ONLY COMPANY RULES, BUT ALSO FRLONY LAW VIOLATION LIKE GRAND THEFT, CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND DRUG DEALING ( WHICH CAUGHT UP TO HIM IN A BIG WAY WITH THE POLICE AND DEA HAULING HIM OFF IN CUFFS AND HE WAS RUN OUT OF SECURITY IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA!) THAT IS THE MAN YOU TOOK YOUR QUE FROM ABOUT ME, WHEN IN A THREE TO FIVE MONTH PERIOD MY FILE WAS STUFFED WITH EVIL CRAP BY THIS MAN AND THAT WAS THE BASIS OF MY TERMINATION AND BEING BANNED BY SECURITAS? HARVEY HAD MORE THEN A JUDGMENT LAPSE-HE HAD A SANITY LAPSE! I FELT LIKE THE FICTIONAL CHARACTER DR, RICHARD KIMBEL, CHASING AFTER THE PHANTOM "ONE-ARMED MAN"---not fair odds when someone has smeared the reputation, and Securitas Security refused to hear or mitigate the circumstances----no-they just take the coward and easy road out---FIRE EVRYONE-OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! NOW YOU KNOW A WEE BIT ABOUT ME AND WHERE I GOT MY TEMPERMENT IN THE INDUSTRY!

I want all these guards, nationwide-be very aware of the economic issues that face you-realistically! First; despite health care reform-major sick-leave costs and services are going to eat your paycheck alive. if you get 10 dollars an hour-no way food, lodging and fuel costs can be juggled! If you are an armed guard earning the prevailing 11.25 an hour-you are whistling in the dark also---it is so far below poverty, even migrant vegetable pickers earn more! This guard service will deplete available, reasonable, educated manpower by the end of the year. Watch what happens between contract managers and clients at that time venue----total disconnect-because getting guards will carry a hefty premium rate skyrocketing. Iy has to happen!!!I see folks flagging the blogs, but what insight do they have over our offerings based on past experiences? We wish small companies would rise up-and use experienced and educated guards-and supervisors would dedicate themselves to servicing and making the job more career oriented for the staff workers---what is so hard to understand, or out of balance with correctness? Think about your futures-------10 dollars an hour doesn't go far after your tank of gas, a hot-dog from 7-11, and a cup of coffee!

I am newt this. If any of you know anything about security companies you know that there are good ones and bad ones the good companies are having a hard time getting contracts while the bad ones are doing good getting contracts by giving away their services and then giving their clients bad service like not patrolling the property or letting their officers sleeping on the job. They let their officers get away with this because they only pay them min wage. I know a few companies that only charge less then $17.00 per hour for their guard. After all their expenses (insurance, workers comp, taxes, and all there other overhead the only way they can make any real profit is by paying there officers min wage or paying them under the table.
