Typincal Technicain wages for New York Counties of Nassau, Suffolk:
23181 - Electronics Technician, Maintenance I 20.20
23182 - Electronics Technician, Maintenance II 24.18
23183 - Electronics Technician, Maintenance III 25.46
LL OCCUPATIONS LISTED ABOVE RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING BENEFITS:

HEALTH & WELFARE: $2.36 an hour or $94.40 a week or $409.07 a month

VACATION: 2 weeks paid vacation after 1 year of service with a contractor or
successor; 3 weeks after 5 years, 4 weeks after 15 years, and 5 weeks after 25
years. Length of service includes the whole span of continuous service with the
present contractor or successor, wherever employed, and with the predecessor
contractors in the performance of similar work at the same Federal facility. (Reg.
29 CFR 4.173)

I've been a "technician" of one type or another for over 20 years, with hourly rates ranging from $8 to $22. Worst paid being a "production tech" and the best being "engineering" or "calibration". Benefits vary wildly, depending on where you are.

Once you have a resume history of being a technician of any kind, it's extremely difficult to escape that box. I received my BA back in 2000 and have been trying to break into a professional band ever since... with no luck.

quit looking at the saliary look at what you will get in the long run
but what do i know i have only done this for about 20 years
