I recently received my AAS in HIT. I am studying to take my RHIT certification and waiting for my letter to test. Where I am located, there aren't a lot of HIT/HIM, medical records job openings that are close to me. I am also looking for something that is close to an 1/2 hour drive. The commute time around here is horrible and don't want to drive an hour both ways for work. I have done that in the past, and it is miserable. I am looking into other avenues that interest me like medical claims, billing, insurance, and ROI. I have been waiting for an ROI job opening from HealtPort. I have seen a couple of job openings for call center jobs at health insurance companies. I have worked in a call center before and isn't the best job on earth, but I do realize it can give me much needed job experience. I am just wondering if any other HIM students have done this type of work to get claims or billing experience. Most companies want at least a year experience. I just don't have that.
