Well, it is something that may take a little time, but it is possible. I started researching jobs in the field that were hiring and were willing to train. I looked at plastic suregeons offices, medical spas, and dermatology offices. Look on craigs list, look on dna websites, just get familiar. If you have the money take courses where you get a certificate in injectables. Ask your colleagues. You may be surprised but they may go to someone or know someone that is looking for a RN. We all got to start somewhere. If I can help you with anything else, let me know.

I am an RN (BSN) and a Esthetician. Would love to work part time for a dermatologist or plastic surgeon in MA.

I'm an RN only. How do you become certified in botox, fillers, etc? Is it very expensive? Also, what is involved in becoming an Esthetician? I'm 55 yo and would love to get away from bedside nursing and do something "beautiful" for awhile.

Hi My name is Amy.. I live in Keller Texas which is basically Grapevine/ Southlake area. I am 35 min. to Dallas and 25 to Ft. Worth. I am an GN...about to take boards...and then go to either NLI or ESI for certifications. They are both expensive...any feed back on which is better. Also...anyone know anyone looking to hire. Have either of you heard of Massage Envy Spa? They are new and popping up all over in Orange County, and they have a website: MassageEnvy.com. My neighbor is an esthetician at one and totally loves it.

Also, have you approached dermatology offices affiliated with local universities or residency programs? If you are near UC Irvine, I know there is a large dermatology program that offers extensive services, and also the Beckman Laser Institute (UCI) may also
offer you some guidance. They conduct research on laser treaments that could use your experience!

You can also check uci.edu and there may be job postings in the dermatology threads.

I am an RN with 3 years experience in Dermatology. I did photodynamic therapy, intralesional injections and was the Accutane Program Coordinator for our dept. I have worked in dermatology, cosmetic surgery, and aesthetics for about 7 years. I guess I got started right when the profession was getting "hot". I started in admin, worked my way up as an MA, LPN, and now RN. I live in Huntington Beach and you're correct, a lot of places want nurses with experience or are only willing to hire MA's. If a job posts for an MA, you may have to inquire whether they would consider an RN with minimal experience. If you have any surgical experience, glorify that on your resume. Also, get involved in some online seminars, conventions, or training that involves aesthetics. The aesthetic training can get pretty pricey so be aware and do your research!!!! Where area of Cali do you live in and I might be able to suggest a good trainer for BOTOX, fillers, and lasers to get you started. He charges around 1200.00 for a two day class but he is a doctor and is very good and comes highly recommended. Lot's of aesthetic skin care magazines will post upcoming seminars or training events. If you can get ahold of them that would also be a good a place to start. (Try your hair salon, an aesthetician, beauty school, or massage therapist, they usaully have those magazines in their waiting area or their breakroom). Good Luck!!!

I'm ready to spend money for training and move into another area of nursing. I'm trauma and other ICU trained - not OR. Ironically I have a friend that is an ER nurse and has worked in trauma also. She does aesthetic nursing and was trained by the doctor I spoke about. She also works for him part time as well as other aesthetic practices. Name is Dr. Kojian. Google him and tell me what you think. I will give you my personal email after that and then give you his personal cell# for training, (that's how he schedules for training sessions.)
One place you might look in to is laser lipo centers. I just spoke to a representative there at the begining of the week and they indicated they do not need experienced RN's. The rep advised they are willing to train. Not sure if it was just for that facility or all of their facilities but I would look in to that. The pay may not be that great starting off so you may have to compensate. Usually, you are self employed (1099) employee and must carry libability insurance, (Califonia is a mandatory 1 mill coverage). I know a broker that can work with you for a reasonable monthly payment in order to have 1mill coverage. Once you look up Dr. Kojian. If you're interested, I will fill you in on the rest of the ins/outs of the industry when you're ready to go forward.

Second, I'm an RN who turned entrepreneur, running a CEU publishing company for 16 years. But, it got old after so many years. Now I'm free to do whatever I want.

I would also be interested in receiving information on Dr. Kojian. Likewise, do you know what company is providing the liability insurance for these types of independent contractors (RNs practicing medical aesthetics)?
