April 2009 Customs Broker Exam

I am looking for anyone who has taken the test recently and is willing to sell their study material. Also, if anyone is interested in creating a study group.

Did you find anyone to sell their study material? How are you going about studying?

No I have not found anyone willing to sell their study materials. The deadline to pay the application fee is soon and I have not yet begun studying. I might have to wait until Oct. since I wont have any extra $$ until the first week of March and I do not know if 1 month is long enough to study (though I can study all day)

suggest that you concentrate on the Customs Regulations...index and TOC. It is important to find the appropriate references QUICKLY (3 minutes). Sometimes finding the specific reg is easy sometimes the question is rather difficult...most is being familiar and being abe to locate the appropriate reg quickly.

one question that may repeat is the delivered price duty paid where they try to get you to miss by not deducting the ACTUAL duty..if the correct duty rate is 5% then that is the deduction not what they necessarily give in the problem.

Regards...by the way I do offer a study of the previous exams with the full answer expalnation on how you arrive at the solution...

We meet 1-2 times a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays for 12 weeks

If your interested let me know and I will add you to my E mail group and send out information in November 2009 so your ready to start in January.

There are a couple other people who also have study groups if I don't have enough people to do mine.

We have a few study groups in the Chicago area that usually have about 10 people in each one. Smaller groups are better for studying together.

If you are interested E mail me please and I will get you on the E mail list that information will be going out the last week in November for the January start dates.

Also as for materials you will need updated 19 CFR and also the updated tariff (wont know for sure until the test info is posted if 2009 tariff or 2010 tariff) so you might not be able to buy old material but if you join a study group all the handouts will be included.

For any of you that are really interested in becoming U S Customs Brokers make sure you are possitive you can devote 16 weeks of your life to this and give up everything else.

It is a grueling course and on the October 2009 test only 80 of 1200 applicants past the test. That is why it is better to do the April test no one wants to study in the summer and give up their whole summer for the October test.
