Due to the current economic situation, I have been laid off several time in the past few years. I have been told that it is not recommended that you state this information on your resume or cover letters. This makes it appear that I have been "job hopping" quite a bit in the past few years, which has made it difficult to even get an interview. What can I do to change this?

Look to change your resume to list your skill set first then the jobs.

It will take some time, but play up your assets - what you bring to the table, that is really what they need. Any employer who doesn't think it is tough to find a job is not paying attention, and you may not want to be around someone who can't see past their own experience, LOL.

Seriously, though, try looking up examples of different resumes that are functional, then chronilogical. Here is a link (took a second to find) and good luck!
