I-gave-up-job-searching in Las Vegas, Nevada 3 months ago |
All, I've been using indeed as my main source of job search for the last 10 months. So far I have applied with numerous companies, and have even had interviews. Basically, I am trying to relocate, my search began in certain cities (Austin, TX., Tampa, FL.) and now has expanded to full states (Texas, Florida). I have never had as much difficulty as I have had searching for a job in my life. It seems like companies do not want to relocate anyone out of state anymore! Also, recruiters seem to not care about anything you do, they just have resume farms that seem to go nowhere! I am probably going to give up because I just cannot work on this and work at my job anymore! Ranting aside, here are my questions to you all: - Is there anything else I can be doing to spark interest in companies to hire me from another state? - Are there recruiters out there you can PAY to find you a job? It seems like the 'free' ones only care about holding your resume. If you need any other information to answer these questions, I can reply back in the forum. Thanks! |

I agree with your one point, that companies don't want to deal with candidates who have to relocate, even if you tell them that you will pay the cost of moving. I think the thinking is this for companies, "why would I want to deal with a candidate who has to relocate when I can eventually find someone closeby". Unless they are looking for a CEO, then they would have to expand their job search to other counties and states. Because how many CEO's live near the company. (unless you live in a major city) I know it's frustrating, companies do not think outside the box when it comes to hiring. Round peg for round hole and square peg for square hole. That's how they think. Even though I don't like headhunters, in this case they do have contacts all over the US. It might be easier to go with them in this situation. It ain't easy! |

Indeed is a terrific resource. It harvests most jobs off other job boards. The fora are interesting and - entertaining. However, Indeed should not be your only resource. You need to be proactive. Post your resume on the major job boards. You may not receive many responses, but the boards are other irons in the fire for you. Run googles with your job title/description and cities where you'd like to move. You should get several company website hits. Review them and mail cover letters of interest and your resume to these companies. Also, company websites may have Careers links. Click on them for jobs in which you may be interested. Try googling cities' names and "newspaper." You will get hits on local dailies. Look in their "jobs" section in their online classifieds. Just a few ideas. No, it is not easy. Job searching is difficult, arduous and a job in itself. Good luck with your efforts. |

I would add that you can engage a headhunter to find opportunities for you. That is, if you trust and want to work with a headhunter. |

Hi "I gave up in Vegas": You may want to check out what I posted in General>Career Advice Forum titled Attention America...maybe this applies to you. Also, there are other outsourcing companies that are listed on google that you may want to look into. I wish you the very best of luck...I'm right there with you. |
