Hi all,

I left my job of 2 years as it wasn't a good fit for me any longer. I left on great terms and am not worried about the reference. Since leaving, I did some consulting for my husbands company as well as some temporary work (3 months total). I'm currently going through a background check process for a new job that was offered to me. How would my consulting gig be verified since its considered self employment? Any ideas?

At the very worst, it will come back as: Unable to verify. This is only bad when there is a huge gap. Then ju got sun s'plaining to do. Heh!

This also happens when a former employer goes belly up or the company is bought out.

The best thing you can do from now is save all of your paystubs.

I did security consulting in the past - I gave my clients as a reference for verification of self employment. Just give your former clients a heads up and all should be good.
