Can anyone tell me anything about employment with G&K Services? I've applied for a General Manager position, but can find very little in the way of employee comments.

Thanks!

I use to work there 5 yrs ago, the turn over is unbelievable. I was a sales rep, in my training class there was 35 of us. After 6 months I was the only one left. They have quotas that cannot be met. Look somewhere else the industry as a whole stinks.

i went for an initial interview and the pay scale list showed a base of 37k, plus 650 per month for a car allowance. am i reading this correctly? would you mind going into further detail about the position? laptop? phone? expense account? it seems as though the structure and compensation is a lot like ADP. realistic first year of 60-70k? thanks for your time.

I worked there for 12 years. They are lying to you. If you make it through the first two years, which would be a miracle in the third year you might see 75-90.

Don't take a penny less than$130k depending on the size of the business. Plant plus 2 branches, $165k

C, great advice. I think the salary is a little lower in the US, but not by much. I know the GM's in the Eastern Region are based at a minimum of $110,000.

The GM of Belleville is on the hot seat, he is about to get smoked. He is a terrible GM with little uniform experience (came from 15 years at UPS) and awful people skills, his numbers have been tanking since he took over in late '07. They will eventually be converting that plant to a Branch and sending the processing up to Waterbury Conn, and eliminating 30-40 people.

My advice is STAY AWAY FROM THAT COMPANY, they just announced more layoffs, overall company health is not good.

Awful company. More layoffs this week. The chew up and spit out managers like it is nothing. They work their employees to death and still say they are not doing enough. I don't work there, but know someone who does, and it is a terrible atmosphere! Run!

I got hired at their location in Scarborough, Ontario Canada as a Territory Sales Representative. I was there for a month and a half, and was told that my training was not going well, and they said I was no longer a "good fit". A bunch of BS if you ask me, and they totally wasted my time. Do not even look at this company. It's true that the turnover is incredible, and in my opinion lacks proper management.

I would decline because honestly, you will not want to work there for the long haul, and if you are lookinga t a sales gig, you will probably not last long there anyway. I woudl only take it if you are still going to look for something else in the meantime....

When I worked there, one co-worker of mine was just exiting, and told me they had gone through 17 Sales Reps in a little over a year. Talk about bad turnover rates!

I just left the Brampton office after being there for almost 21/2 years as a sales rep. Turnover in Scarborough is unbelievable!!! Currently none of the reps are there longer than 8 months. The Sales Manager was fired in November after 8 years. Brampton turnover is not as bad. No raise to base pay in over 4 years, vacation policy that is in the dark ages, unrealistic quotas. On the plus side they offer excellent training and I believe are the best in the industry.

Bruce,

I hope this reply is not to late. I worked for G & K in an upper management position for more than 10 years in CT. It was a great paying job but the will lie to you. I saw many GM's who were mis treated and set up for failue. I have had meetings with the upper management at corporate and let me tell you they were all full of lies. i have seen familys broken apart and marriages failed due to the long hours. if your willing to sell your soul to G & K then its the job for you! if you have a family please listen to me dont take a job for any location. everywhere its almost the same. please take my advise. i left on my own terms for a better job and my life is 100% better

If you care for your family or want to have a life outside of work, do not take this job. My X (still there) 14 to 16 hours a day. 20 some odd years, worked to the bone, no vacation time. You have it but you cannot use it. They do not care about you or your family. Bottom line. Thats all.

Wow what a shock from the interview and to the reality of working at this company. They promise everything and deliver nothing. I work 14 hour days so I make about $10 an hour since I'm salaried. I don't know how they get away with not paying drivers overtime. I am looking for a new job because I don't see anything changing.
