Here is more short story.

I went back to college at age 31 in 1988 and graduated with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineer degree in 1994. EE jobs were not plentiful here in Cleveland and for someone like me with no family or friends (acquaintances?). Networking proved to be more fruitless than fruitful.

Eventually I found work as a Maintenance Repairman/Janitor, then upgraded to an Electronic Technician, then I finally upgraded to a real Electrical Engineer. After about four and one half years of total engineering experience I was laid off in November of 2001. This is where I am at today.

I am a white male, fifty years old. What jobs are available for someone like me? In Cleveland as well as other cities. Do I waste time at the local community college for a quick fix class or to learn more "junk" that I can’t use to make a living? Or perhaps I should try to move to another country?

I have also written to five politicians, to no avail. I have exhausted my colleges career services offerings. I have tried headhunters and cold calling on my own. Nothing seems to work. The employers require more experience than mine, and for entry-level they prefer recent college graduates.

I am at a total loss now on what jobs are really available for me. I’m tired. I don’t want to fight this fight any more. What do I do? Who can and will help me? Please help me, please.
