Help.... I have been asked to give a 15 min paper based presentation, I assume this just means no powerpoint etc, and I need to provide handouts. Any tips on what to put in the handout please....and do I give out handouts at the end or begining?

Thanks

Do your presentation in a powerpoint format, sheet per sheet.
Print it (it is now paper-based). I suggest printing four pw sheets on one page (meaning if your pp is 16 sheets, you will pring four sheets - (1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16). Hand them your sheets as soon as you start the presentation so they can follow along.

For anyone else, DO NOT RESPOND. As soon as I posted a response I was hit with a scam make money job. The email I got is nothing like the other spam mail I get. I am sure it came because of my post.

Maybe it wasn't you. Maybe it was coincidence. It just felt too coincidental, particularly in the re line.

If that wasn't you, I certainly home my suggestion is helpful.

Since you're going through all this work, PRACTICE the damn thing too. Give yourself a mock interview. If you have qualified friends, then let them pretent to be the intercviewers.

Clean up and dress up as you would for the interview, and videotape it - and review the tape.

Great advice, once i've finished writing the thing!!!! Having such a block!!!

If anyone wants to add tips for the content the question is....
Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the cafe (done this bit and think it's ok)

and the what would be your short, medium and long term goals and how would you implement them?

It's the second bit that I'm finding hard, any help would be really welcome.

Thanks guys x

Uhm.. I hope this position is for the marketing department of a corporate or franchise chain of cafes.
Otherwise, they may just be using you to get free ideas.

I had a panel interview a year ago where one of the interviewers slid a pad of paper and a pen across the desk to me and asked me to mock-design a database for him.
I instantly knew what he was trying to do and I countered back with, "it would probably be more appropriate to discuss design details once I'm part of the team"
I never got the job, but I feel I worked too hard for my education and experience to just give it away.

So, unless you're a new graduate and know for sure you're competing with other new graduates, I wouldn't give free advice. Besides, if you give them your best work up front, what would you have to dazzle them with once you're on board with them?

This isn't something that I brilliantly came up with. I know a few job seekers that have been used like this during an interview and passed their stories onto me.
Most surprising story i heard was a government agency doing it to a colleague of mine.

Well, hotdiggity, that's just another example of prospective employers being able to do whatever they want in screening candidates. You have to jump through whatever hoops they put in front of you, or you're done. It's rather ridiculous, but there are so many in the field of candidates that someone will answer the question or provide the example. Sign of the times.
