What a joke, a staffing firm has posted and ad for an Executive Assistant and wants someone with a 4 year degree and only pays $15-17k per year. That is an insult!! I hope that nobody applies, or if they do, put it the cover letter, did you mean $15-17 per hour? What is the purpose of getting a better education with high debt only to take a lifetime to pay off at that rock bottom salary. WAKE UP!! And no the agency was not OfficeTeam, which is noted for lowball salary.

I saw sth more worse: Controller (finance/accounting) for $36K. Normally this position starts at mid 70K here...

Sometime peaches are 99 cents a pound and sometimes they are $2.99 a pound. Labor is the same way. Its on sale today.

That probably was OfficeTeam's posting. They are so cheap when it comes to pay to the candidate, but soak the client thinking if they pay more they will get better help, if only they knew that only the 20 somethings are stupid enough or still live at home to accept that kind of pay.

I have a receptionist interview tomorrow paying $8.50 hr. Happy to have an interview NOT so bout the pay. I'd take an executive assist. job at $17K/yr. f/t with benefits and no don't live at home with my parents (deceased as it were) and am not just "starting out", I've just been out of work since Dec. 2008 and can't expect to be paid $17/hr anymore whether or not i can live off it is irrelevant I mite wait till Hell freezes over if i wait for a livable salary tho I did interview today at $16/hr. for a clerical job so go figure? I also saw last yr a clerical job paying $23.hr. thought it was a mistake they meant per yr. but no that was the pay, it was a small private co, unfortunately i was never called to interview.
I still see some upper level admin/exec. admin jobs for $50-$70K around here, the job description is like, take messages, order supplies, make travel arrangements, arrange meetings etc? I don't see why I cannot get a cushy job like that, the lower level clerical jobs pay way less and have more grunt work but you'll never be hired as an EA if you've not supported upper level execs.
The 2 interviews i have this week have very low sounding titles compared to the number of responsibilities, 99% of the receptionist jobs I apply to are more like office mgr jobs that also have to greet clients and answer the phone and seems like secretary or admin has been replaced by the office clerk title but they expect you to be proficient in MS Office and able to create reports and be self suffiecient etc. not very low level to me.
