Disabled child with Autism and it is getting to be impossible for me to work in general. No day care or real programs for these kids. It just does not work. Holidays are a night mare ($ 40 to $70 per day). Private Care Nannies are at $15 per hour starting. Drop in child care is starting at $10 per hour and that only last about 2 hours before I get the call! I just don't make that kind of money. At this point, there are no options for me. Work as been okay with me taking off when I need to to run home and come back within 2 hours. But I can't do this every other day anymore. I have looked around and starting a at home business is not an option, there just is nothing I can do to bring in income while staying at home. I have been told the best option is getting on welfare, waiting a minimum of a year for housing, go back to school, get grants, live off those and stay at home. But until housing pops in, what to do in the meantime? We have to stay somewhere and shelters are full. Welfare is about $300 per month and the Social Security check will maybe bring in a total income of $500 per month. Not enough to cover a car payment and insurance. He will be going onto middle school soon, which adds to the this. School starts at 7:45 and gets out at 3:00. Any ideas??? If there are single moms that have made it, send me advise, we have made it this long on prayers. But the older my child gets the harder this is getting. Biggest problem right now is finding money for daycare and the nannies to watch him and flaky in home providers that are either in or out every other day. Again if there are any single moms out there that have advise. Please help. school is starting again in two weeks and already dreading what to do next. Child cant stay home alone and out of friends and family they have there own lives. Child support does not come in and have been fighting. Stuck in the legal system of the Attorney General. e-mail avamiller101@gmail.com Single moms advise??

Its a big problem. My sister is a special education in California and when she has to take furlough days off (the state is broke), parents have to "make other arrangements". Even people with money have left the state because of this.

Contact social services in your state. Unfortunately, welfare is often the only option.

I see you are in Austin. Have you looked at ACS-Xerox? They often hire people to work from home after a brief probationary period. Specifically the TMHP account. It manages the State's Medicaid program. Jobs like taking calls from providers/clients, processing claims, etc.

Not the most fun job in the world, but might work well for your situation.

Where is your family? Any reason your parents cant help you out, or cousins?
