I have been trying to get a job at a sneaker store for years and I can never even get an interview. Its like trying to get an interview at NASA :-) I am a neat person and in college but it seems almost impossible. Can anyone please help?

Guide

Ricardo,

Do you have a stable work history and a well-done resume?

Tell me about it, I've worked at lady footlocker a few years back and I remember all the job details with work history and they still won't give me an interview I applied to like like 5 locations! Its sick! Lol the managers totally brush me off, and I am professional, polite, and know the importance of freakin multiple sales!

I know the locations in Metro Detroit look at you like youre crazy when you ask for applications. I know they dont read them or turn them in...IN THE TRASH. So wierd? Im a sneaker freak too, I know so much about sneakers...I guess ill keep trying. I figured the holiday season would be the best time to try? Hmm?

I think the best bet is seasonal, and then stay on after the holidays! I was offered to stay on, when I did work at footlocker...but i was going to school full time, and didn't really need to work, but now I have bills and school is harder to pay for, so i need an extra job, and so I am looking at forcing my way into working at footlocker this holiday season lol So good luck to you

lol it is easy! I mean seriously, standing around waiting for customers to come in and run in the back and get them a shoe is easy, and being nice about it lol The hard part is upselling stuff people usually don't want like socks, shoe strings, over priced shoe cleaner, shoe protector, insoles...that's the hard part. You don't get paid a lot at footlocker (esp part time), but its a pretty cool job when you need some more cash or you have other work or school stresses in your life lol Usually they hire in the first interview. I know thats how my process was. Good luck for sure, I hope I get a position too lol The only thing i hate, most employees at these places are lazy and don't understand the importance of multiple sells, if you stress that, you'll get the job lol

I want a job at foolocker, lady footlocker or footaction, i went online to apply there but it didnt make any since. I think my best bet would be to walk into a store and ask for one but im scared the other employers wont take it seriously or wont care enough to turn it in. iI dream about shoes I love them so much lol, and I know i'll be a good worker but I don't know how to get my foot in the door. any advice? or is it who you know?

take the time to learn about the shoes they have on their walls. and by that i dont mean the casuals (regarding, shoe heads) but the athletics. go into a store, ask to speak to a manager and tell them everything about 2 athletic shoes in the store and finish it off with "and im willing to learn more if allowed to"

I co-sign with everything that kelly in Pasadena, California wrote. I worked for Lady Footlocker in the late 90's, and at the time I applied during the holiday season and stayed on for over a year. I went to the local mall, turned in an application and was interviewed a couple of days later. As a test, the hiring manager wanted me to 'sell' her a pen. lol. I can't sell to save my life, but as luck would have it I got hired. I was a full time student at the time, so this was extra money for me, although it was part time and minimum wage. You will be expected to cross sell other stuff like socks and shoe cleaner. But the bulk of the time your standing around. The best time to apply is between August and December, which comprise of back to school shopping and the holiday season.

I turned in my application about a week ago and the monday when the hiring manager from footlocker came back from vacation, i was at the mall and just thought to talk to him face to face to see if he has reviewed my application and within 5 days later, i get a call to set up an interview, the interview was this morning, i showed confidence and that you have interest in the job. and i am only 16 years old as of 3 weeks ago and by me showing i was interested, landed me an interview. now i have to be patient to see if i got the job opening.

I'm not from Brisbane , but I do live in Australia. Everyone's comments have been helpful. Thank you. They are opening a new shopping centre (mall) and footlocker is in there, and I would really love to work there....I just wanted to know what qualifications you need and if experience was neccessary??

Back when I was hired I had no retail or selling experience at all and I was trained on the job. But again, this was back in the late 90's. Nowadays these companies expect people to come in knowing the sun, moon and stars. And unfortunately with the economy the way it is and the sheer number of people unemployed, employers can afford to pick and choose who they want, even retail. Where as before you may not have needed experience, now, I wouldn't be surprised if Footlocker or any other retail place ask that you have at least 6 months to 1 year recent retail experience.

Employment Specialist, you sound like you're soliciting on different people's posts. Give these people real advice instead of pitching the same empty speech on every post.

Who ever this is I appreciate it. But I'm wondering between foot locker and champs who do you think gets/has the best shoes?

I got a call back from them about 2 1/2 weeks after I sent my application. The HR was nice and polite and asked if I wanted to schedule an interview. I had to decline because I got a job offer else where, but I really really wanted to work there. I asked how long I will be able to reapply and he told me that he'll put my application on hold for about 6 months and I can call whenever to get an interview again.

I know at this one shoe store I submitted my App right too the manager and he gave me an interview date at the spot for two days later and I came and i feel like it went well me and the other employees vibed and joked alot and got along well, the manager seemed to love me he already knew my name when i walked in and remembered my face and everything . Then at the end of the interview he told me give him time he has to look over the scheldule and he'll see if he can fit my work scheldule in there because im still in highschool and only can work after 4. Did you Think I got the Job
