So...I'm 21 and I have no clue what I want to do with my life. It's just so frustrating. I want to be like all those people who knew from the beginning what they wanted to do. I'm currently doing this school thing what's kinda inbetween highschool and college. It's like a community college-ish. After finishing (which will be in a few month's) I have to make a decision what kind of education I want to do, but I have no clue. Not even the slightest idea! Sure, I know that I'd like to help people, and I consider myself as a nice person, who does anything for everyone. But do I really want to be talking about someone else's problems? I don't know. I don't think that's really for me. So yesterday when I was at a concert I had a semi-epiphany. I was listening to the music and I realized that being around music makes me happy. Then I started to think that if I had a job that was music related that I would be perfectly happy, and I would go to work with a smile (which isn't the case at all with my part-time job). However, I don't consider my voice as singer material and my guitar skills arent't that good yet, since I just started playing. That's a reason I think that something in music is far away for me. Today I was thinking about taking a year off and focus on bettering my guitar skills and see in a year where I stand. But I'm not sure if that's a good idea? I guess what I'm saying is: does anyone out here ever been in that kind of postion, or do you have any tips? I'm just so lost these days that I think it would be good talking to some people about it would be good :) |

Well, not necessarily the 'rockstar' career. But however I'm thinking about doing something music related. Because I just don't think I'll be happy doing something else. I know that it sounds stupid.... |

All I can say is whatever you choose to do, good luck... 'cause it's not gonna be easy to find a job in whatever field you decide to pursue a career in. |

I agree you need to do something that you like because otherwise if you go to a job that you hate (even if you are go at it) it will make you miserable. I do not think anyone can really tell you what career you might like because with the exception of a few people there are things about all jobs that you will not like. Even rock stars dislike things about their lives. When considering taking a year off remember that during that time you are going to want to buy things or go places and without a job it will make it difficult. However, if you are planning to keep your part time job you may then get pulled into it on more of a full time job. My suggestion to you is to look either online at testing for job interest. It will help you get an idea of the types of jobs out there for the things that you stated that you liked. I wish that I had done more research on jobs when I was your age or younger. As I have a degree in a field I do not use, then worked in an office for 10 years, which stressed me out, to finally go back to school to do something that would have only taken me a couple of years in school. There are careers out there such as recreational therapy, music therapy, teaching, radio, etc... find things that peak your interest then find someone in that field and interview them. As them what they like and dislike about the field, if they would do it again, what the job outlook looks like but no matter what remember no one can make that decision for you or even point you in the right direction because we all have different ideas of what makes us happy. Good Luck |
