I graduated college last December with my BA in Marketing Communication. I started looking for a job before I even graduated. I polished my resume and put together my portfolio. I had many people review my resume and portfolio. I've had three internships as well as many years of good work experience in customer service and management. I have a good GPA. However, due to this recession, I'm having the hardest time finding a full-time job. Right now I work two part-time jobs. One is actually an unpaid internship to get "experience". I have been working at one part-time job for about a year, the other for about six months. Neither of them are planning to hire me full-time anytime soon. Looking back, I wish I didn't go to school for marketing, but I had no idea the economy would tank and many companies would cut back on marketing. Every place I interview wants experience, experience, experience. It is SO frustrating. How am I supposed to get experience if no one will hire me? It's sad. Competition is steep for jobs and companies are hiring less people to do more work. I'd like to stay in Indiana or the Chicago area. I'm starting to look for any full-time job that pays decent, but then at the interview, they criticize me because they want to know why I am applying for an administrative assistant job when I have a background in marketing and pr. This makes them think that I will not stay at their company once something better comes along. I've thought about going back to school, but everywhere I interview, they want WORK experience. I've questioned whether it was worth going to school at all. I just don't know what to do. I've always been a good student, but this job hunt has left me depressed and hating myself. Anyone have advice on what I should do? Or what types of jobs I may have a chance at getting? I have contacted my school for help and sadly, they don't really help alumni. They went over my resume and made one suggestion, but everything else they suggested, I am alr

Keep on networking with friends, family, ex coworkers, people you know from church, etc cause to find a job in today's dismal job market you have to know someone within an organization or company to land a job.

My oldest sister got the same degree you have and went to law school after a few years working for an advertising agency. Good Luck.

Look at place like Tech Crunch, Mashable, Four Square, look on Quora, LinkedIn, they all have posting for Marketing ppl all the time. Don't sell yourself short. Your advantage is that you do not have to be untrained !!! Look for all your positive aspect and really sell them. Match you personality to the person doing the interview. If they are excited , be excited, If they are calm and demure, be calm. Follow companies you would like to work at on Facebook and twitter. Tweet your resume URL so they can see it online. Join Marketing forums on facebook and LinkedIn.
