It's pathetic... all of it. Rude and inconsiderate recruiters, multiple phone and in-person interviews without a follow-up phone call or email. Can the companies and clients conducting an interview at least smile when they greet you? A limp handshake followed by a slew of riduculous questions with a vague outline of the job description; this is what the process has become. And the recruiters are the worst. You either can't understand them because they don't speak english or they ask you if you have any experience flying the Space Shuttle when it's nowhere to be found on your resume.

And please don't ask me if I'm willing to relocate to Fargo when I live in New Jersey, ok? And please don't ask me if I know anyone who might be interested. I'm interested in hearing about opportunities, not about advancing your career.

Here's a little fact that may be illusive to recruiters and company hiring managers: we're professionals. Some of us have the abilty to communicate, read, write, speak, participate, instruct and most importantly, LEARN!! Don't ask me about some obscure command line execution that requires a backslash followed by some other parameter. What's important is to know what procedure and process to follow when an application or system goes down. I'll figure out the syntax quick enough when required.

Were have all the professionals gone? Where have the rules and etiquette gone as well? The whole job and interview process has turned into a joke.

I agree with you too. When I first started working 34 years ago (1977), I was able to walk in off the street, fill out an application, and it was kept on file no matter what.

In the 1980's, I was able to call up most staffing agencies, make an appointment, and go right in and register.

Nowadays, they want to see your resume first before they decide to bring you in. It's just like they say in showbiz: "Don't call us: we'll call you."
