My job search has settled into two catagory's..first the interviewer with no balls catagory..you go to a one on one interview and all is going great. you spend an hour talking and then he tell's you all the things you want to hear including how he will call you to come back and speak to 'X'..then he never calls. so i call him and he continues to lie (knowing full well he does not want you) telling me they are still in the process of setting the second interview up. The second catagory is the unnecessary false hope catagory..I go for a one on one interview and it's going great..you speak for 30 minutes or so and then they show you around introducing you to everyone that works there..this is joe blow, he's been here 3 years..(do i care, i will never see him again)..for what possible purpose is this done? excuse me? do i have the job? it's a total time waster and false hope..you leave thinking hey, they liked me so much there introducing me to the staff. and then of course you never hear back. anyone else have this happen to them?

Yep, that about sums it up.

I've gotten to the 3 interviews stage at one company for a part time job. They still can't give me an answer. I'm not sure why they are hesitating so much. I feel like I'm being strung along and that kind of raises a red flag.

What ticks me off is that they run you threw the wringer for a crummy job only to hire someone else..Then for the kicker you see the job posted again 6 weeks later because the person they hired didn't work out..they over think the hiring process way too much..

Floplop I know many will disagree with me but I think we have a duty to call these people out (professionally). Nothing wrong with writing a nicely worded professional e-mail about how you feel the company conducted itself. The probability that it will have any impact on the person who conducted themselves unprofessionally is minimal but at least you brought it to someones attention. I know for me, if a company jerks me around and conducts themselves in a manner that is inappropriate, I make sure I don't do business with that company or it's subsidiaries in my personal life and I try to convince my friends to do the same. Now a lot of people get that twisted with having sour grapes because they didn't get the job. That's not the case. I would NEVER NOT do business with a company that conducted the interview and process professionally but just chose to go in a different direction. I would choose not to do business with a company that said I have the job but never hear from them again, asks "illegal" questions during the interview, or were just all around jerks. Just my opinion.

I totally 100% agree with you..in fact i thought about doing it to the story i posted above..however, i thought to myself..you know at the moment i am unemployed and don't want to ruffle anyones feathers who might be able to help me get a job in the future..it's a small world and it might come back to harm me. BUT..when i do get a job, i have some e-mails to write..i also have experiances where 'several' companie's that i interviewed with were bad-mouthing a certain religious group which i will not be mentioning. I have witnessed the most un-professional people since being unemployned these last 5 months..incredable..

Yep,
I'm 50 years old and have learned not to ruffle any feathers as every person out there knows info on where and when the next job opening will happen (whether its posted or not).

IslandStyle,

I agree with how you are feeling but you really don't want to get *black listed* and ruin your chances of getting a job in the future with that company or organization. I work for HCA and they will black list you in a blink of an eye if you ruffle feathers and it will prevent you from getting a job at any HCA hospital in the USA, not just south FL. I know it can get frustrating after a while but you may have not been selected this time but if you make a good impression and they like you...... your name is 'in the hat' for future openings. That is exactly what happened to me when I got an unexpected phone call 4 months after I was turned down for a position with HCA. After I was turned down for a nursing position (I have 23 years experience) I took a job at a nursing home to make ends meet but I knew in the back of my mind that I will find a full-time position sooner or later with HCA.

I went on a job interview where I was grilled by two people - the VP of the company and the person I was taking the place of. Interview went great...after the interview, I was taken on a tour of the entire office, including the warehouse; I was introduced to other employees of the company including the President! I left there feeling confident that I was getting this job. After a few days of not hearing a thing, I contacted the VP only to be told 'the position has been filled.' Wow, it went from friendly and enthusiastic, to cold and a big 'goodbye'....makes me wish one day soon I hope these people are in my shoes and get to experience what I'm going thru today.

I am a pretty straight forward person..in my managers profession i have been hiring people for 25 yrs..i know within 5 minutes if this is the person i want or not..my main concerns are do you have suitable transportaion to get to work and what is your work history pertaining to this position...i don't overthink it or micro manage the heck out of it..your either in or out..no pre-amble, no call you later, no sugar coating, no phone-tag..nothing. IN or OUT..case closed...A majority of the people i have hired over the years are STILL with the company even though i am long gone..I have even taken some with when i got a new job..Now, i am not saying i never hired a few duds here and there but my track-record of hiring good employees is over 80% good vs bad..

Tania,

I'm glad you mentioned HCA. I had a great interview with them (IT Director), was supposed to meet the President and other executives, but never heard from them after the interview. I felt like they led me on, and wondered if the company as a whole was like that. I'm glad to know you're employed with them, and your experience. I live in Dallas, TX, and HCA has quite a few hospitals in town, and some great jobs. My impression of HCA is better after reading your post :-)

When I went to interview for Sears, they treated it like I should feel like the most honored person in the world, for a chance to work for minimum wage and no health insurance.

When I quit, it's like their brain couldn't comprehend an employee who would rather be unemployed, than employed by them.

Oh, one time I got the whole tour as well. They guy took me around their offices and, um, garage and was introducing me to some as the "new guy replacing" so and so.

We got back to his desk, and he said he wanted to start me on some work.

I told him I'd not even been hired yet because I'd not met for the head honcho for the real interview.

So I sat there and waited two hours for the honcho to show up for the interview. He never did, so I left. Actually, he didn't show up for it the day before and this particular day.

I don't think I would have enjoyed working there anyway, obviously. Yet another wild goose chase interview story.
