I have a bankruptcy on my credit record that will not be removed for three more years. Ironically, while finishing my degree (BSBA in May 08), I discovered that my talent and passion is in accounting. I want to pursue CPA licensure but am wondering if my previous financial problems will prevent me from being hired before or after the bankruptcy is removed from my credit report.

I understand that more employers are performing credit checks on applicants and that bankruptcy might raise some red flags. Will I ever be able to overcome the negative mark or should I be pursuing a different career?

Have you considered spending the 3 years in a Master's program?

Actually, I've given that serious consideration. A Master's program, coupled with the time needed to pass the CPA exam, should put me at the end of the three-year period. I meet the current education standards for my state but the advanced degree would also help me reach the 150 credits that most states now require.

Thank you for your input.
