The most important trait is to be extremely detail oriented and very high attention to detail. It sounds simple but I have seen many people that just don't possess these qualities and it is so important especially as an A/P clerk since you will spend most of your days matching and reviewing invoices and paying the bills which can be very tedious and it is easy to make a mistake. What I tell people is that everyone makes mistakes, the key is to double or triple check your work before you give it to a supervisor for approval, this way it gives the impression that you make very minimal mistakes. Aside from this, I would research and become familiar with some of the common accounting softwares that you see listed on a lot of job postings such as Quickbooks, Peachtree, ect. Also, if you are not already proficient in excel, I would spend time becoming very good at it as a lot of work in the accounting world is done through excel.
