What is the best training for becoming an activities assistant? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective activities assistant?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

I've been in the Health Care field for over 20 years. From working in nursing homes as a CNA (am no longer certified due to leaving the field briefly), Physical Therapy Assistant in a nursing home, a Certified HHA, Certified Phlebotomy Technician (graduated in 2005 with honors and unfortunately, was never able to find employment) to working in a hospital on the Transitional Care Unit. I've never had the opportunity to work as an Activities Assistant, but would like to know if any of my previous experience would qualify me to be employed in this area.
