What is everyone doing for administrative professionals' week? Our office is hosting a breakfast and our bosses are serving us. We will also get a flower at our desk and a gift certificate. It's nice to get acknowledged.

Hi Patricia (by the way her blog is great and she writes great articles).

Back when I was an admin, the only thing my boss did was take me out to lunch. But I will suggest some ideas for self - congratulations for admins!

1) Remember every day should be administrative professionals day! Be proud of your work year round.
2) Remember to tell a peer, the great job they are doing as well.
3) Administrative Professionals Week is a great week to approach the boss for some extra training, there are great conferences giving during the year, IAAP's, APC Conference, Annual Forum by Office Dynamics, AEAP has a conference, not to forget the many great seminars offered all year by the AMA. Ask to go to one!
4) Treat yourself to a trade "admin" publication, the IAAP has one, I am proud of DeskDemon's AdminAdvantage (free).
5 Treat yourself to a networking meeting. Once you get there and start talking you should find it very rewarding.

Hopefully your office will recognize all the work you do and show there appreciation this week, but if they don't. Know your self worth and give yourself a pat on the back. Administrative Professionals really are the backbone of corporations, the unsung heroes and more!

By the way, everyday IS Administrative Professionals Day at DeskDemon

Our office is actually calling it Staff Appreciation Week to cover all the staff, not just the admins. I don't mind sharing :)

Great ideas Susan. Especially #2 struck a chord with me. Sometimes we only remember to point out when people do things wrong and not tell them when they are doing things right. I am going to be more mindful of that one.

I just checked out the link to the magazine that Susan posted, wow I have to say I am highly impressed with the quality of articles in there as well as the variety. Well done DeskDemon Team, I'll certainly be spreading the word to everyone I know. Oh and Happy APW everyone :-)

That's too bad, it's nice to be acknowledged.

We don't get individual gifts at my office. We have a group hug so to speak. They call it Staff Appreciation Week and they have special functions throughout the week for all staff.

Some offices it is up to each boss what they do for their assistant. But some bosses forget and others go overboard so I like the group acknowledgment better then no one is left out.
