Anonymous in Summit, New Jersey said: Sounds like you have a great background. Did you find employment?

I am still searching for employment. I have been on many interviews and nothing as of yet. It's quite depressing to say the least! I interviewed with a company two weeks ago and they are still in the interview process. I may get a call back for a second interview once they have completed the round one interviews. I also have an interview lined up for next week at another company. I am remaining hopeful that something will come along soon! It does appear that things are getting better in the job market as I know of about 4-5 people who just recently found employment. One good thing from being on many interviews, you get better and better at them! HA!

I am going to be a US Census Taker for my local area. Training starts in a couple of weeks (paid). So neighbors...BEWARE!

Money good, 6-8 weeks, at least 20 hours a week. The cavet is nights and weekends, though I hope to do as much in daylight as possible, because Mapquest won't help when it's pitch out. Nevertheless, logic dictates trying to get as many hours on the job as you can for as long as it lasts.

Government jobs are the best place to work if you can.

Also volunteering for local politician, so at least I can put the experience on my resume.

Good to hear, congrats! I applied for the census, passed the test, but they never called me. They said they pick veterans over civilians, but that's okay, at least somebody is getting work. Wish you all the best!

I think maybe it's because it's the 10 years census, not the yearly one(?). Anyway, I got a 20/28 on my test.

For those in my area, the census office is in Tewksbury, so may try to get clerical job there if I'm super successful (worth trying). After all, somebody has to enter all the information into the main database (or they scan).

BTW friends...I've twice heard, though not officially, that the IRS is going to hire lots of people to ensure that everybody has health insurance as mandated by law. Anybody out there hear this?'

I'd LOVE to get back into the IRS.

No, I have not heard anything like this, but if it's true, that would be great! We should all try to apply for a job at the IRS, it wouldn't hurt. Take care.

does the office assistant jobs posted on usajobs.gov require testing? I also saw opening on the State website, but it required testing, and the location is on Sacramento I believe? Does anyone know anything about it and where can I get practice exam?

Most government jobs require testing at some point in the process. It's usually a civil exam but could be a simple test to be sure you can handle the job if hired. Usually the testing is given to those candidates that are qualified.

So, if you're selected further along the hiring process, it's a good thing. If any doubt, contact the contact person listed in the announcement.

If can prove without a doubt through education and experience that you're qualified, AND you're one of the final candidates maybe the testing (unless required by law) won't be necessary.

Good luck!

I don't know if you're still around. If you were denied, then you must have given incorrect information. go to the website for food stamps (find it under www.myflorida.com), go through the criterial survey.

You can also contact St. Vincent de Paul or Catholic Relief for help. You do not have to be Catholic to take advantage of the program.

I live in Columbia and have been unemployed for 9 months. I am in the process of launching a virtual administrative assistant business. Sometimes you have to re-invent yourself. This means that the economy is forcing us to create a job or another way to make money. I have a website/email package through VistaPrint that's about $16 a month. Think about what you're really good at and offer it to someone. Don't wait for a newspaper add or for someone to ask you. Put yourself out there and show then your value. Another idea if you can, is to volunteer a few hours in one of the places you would like to work. If they can't hire you, they may know of someone who does need your experience. Wishing you well!

Right now I'm volunteering for a local state senate candidate (MA-R). If this person is not elected, then my plan (if I'm not working) is to try to get a paying job for the most conservative Republican in my political district.

That's a good idea. I am presently burning all my scrapbooks onto CD for safety storage. I would like to do that for a living...you know being an archivist for private individuals. I would also like to string beads but people tell me I would never make the money back. Professional shopper? (I wish). Professional artist (that's coloring, friends)? (Double wish).

Working at home is not an option at this time. One, I do not have the room to dedicate for business only. Two I would need a new computer (which I need anyway...). Three I would need a permit to work at home, and I cannot get a permit unless I have a firm job offer in writing on company letterhead that I have a job and that I would work at home. Sort of a catch-22.

Still, I think anything arts and crafty is my best bet. Any ideas?

I'm doing substitute teaching (have been for two years). WIA paid for my teaching certification course. Five-year certificate should come in a couple of weeks.

Then I'll make $11.08 an hour. Should start ESE tutoring in October - March.

I'm also working on my blog. My goal is one short story every five days. It's soft erotica (porn) for women. I cashemize my blog. Go read my stories, and I get pennies from the advertisers. (And I'm not kidding. My goal is one story every five days).

I have over 20 yrs. of experience in an Executive/Administrative Assistant role, yet I too have been unemployed for over a year. I have applied for every position under the sun and lately I am lucky to even get a returned response. I remember years back, if I applied for a position, I usually got a response within a few days. I have updated my resume, polished myself up for the far and few interviews I've been on, but I just don't understand what it is that employers are looking for these days. Its a very frustrating and disheartening process, but you can't give up.

Employers are looking for the most qualified and credentialed for the least amount of money. They can afford to be choosy because most people are willing to take what they can get in this economy.

Being a teacher just won't do. Except for family gatherings, I have zero contact with children, never even been a babysitter and I'm not a mother.

I am a devout Catholic and any kind of porn-hard or soft-is morally offensive and probably illegal. It can irreparably damage souls. Please write about something else in your blogs. I care.

You must be very careful in learning coding online. There are a lot-and I mean A LOT-of scams out there. It is best to learn coding through a reputable school, then get certified as a CCA or CCS.

I am a member of AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association), that is recognized as THE accreditation body through out the medical profession. The cost of membership is less than $200 a year. Each CEU quiz (and you need to take four a month is only $15 each-you MUST earn 20 CEU credits per year. I have over 150 so far myself.

Starting in January, I absolutely MUST start learning ICD-10 in order to maintain my certification. There is a deadline, you know.

BTW-For those who care, I am starting a new job at the IRS tomorrow (Monday, Oct 18, 2002); seasonal with benefits. If I can control my moth (always a challenge), I "should" do well. Wish me luck!

If you want to be certified, I would suggest you contact AHIMA-American Health Information Management Association.

The cost is $175 per year for membership. You can get all sorts of courses and continuous training.

REMINDER-I would strongly suggest (as I will this year) start learning ICD-10 so it doesn't end up biting you in the neck in 2012!

I have been without a job for 6 months. I have 20 years in Dentistry as an Assistant and have skills ranging from Front Desk to clinical. I have gone on over 50 interviews and am told I am overqualified. I have downsized my resume but now get NO calls for interviews. I also have HR experience from the US Army National Gaurd; but havent received any interviews for HR. Last month we lost our home and we are now down to only 1 vehicle (hopefully it doesnt die). Im at a loss. I am willing to move anywhere for a decent job. My husband feels the same. I even applied to McDonalds, Taco Bell, and every fast food restaurant in a 20 mile radius ; with no response. If anyone in GA knows any opportunity for me please email me.
Thank You
