Does anyone have any advise for me?? I received my skincare license in Flordia and moved back to Ohio where I am from and got my license transfered after taking stateboard. Well, my goal was going to school to get into the medical side of skin care and thats all I want to do.. I dont want to work at a salon. I could not find a job however so right now I am working from home doing something else. I want to send a resume to a place I did when I first starting trying to find a job but they never called me when I applied like 2yrs ago soo.. I dont know. I dont have ANY experience so does anyone have any advice? Or maybe if I called that company any advice what to ask them? I know they have estheticians. |

Hi gypsy, I just saw your post and I'm in Piqua, too. I'm interested in working with a dermatologist, cosmetic surgeon or in a medical spa. I've just started job hunting but what I'll probably have to return to school for a medical assistant certificate to realize my goal. I've seen that Edison State has a program so I will have to check in to it. You said you don't have any experience but have you been performing treatments on friends and relatives? If so, that's experience because you're keeping up with your skills. Also, have you been taking continuing education courses? You can list these on your resume to show prospective employers. Are you also a nail technician? It seems there's more jobs for nail techs than estheticians. |

Hi 09 Hazel! Thats kinda cool to chat with someone in this area with this kind of license. I havnet done any continuing education classes because this year when I renewed I didnt have to!! It was because of the year I got my license. I havent been doing ANY of my esthetician treatments. Just waxing my own eyebrows :) Sometimes I do give glycolic peels to my mom but its nothing big. After I moved back here from Florida and applied to everywhere in Dayton to work and didn't get one phone call back after a while I never persued anymore. I think you'd have to travel to South Dayton to work in med spa or anything similiar. Alot of offices have nurses in there offices especially dermatolgoist. What kind of classes do they offer at Edison?? I only have my facial license.. Currently I work from home doing other things... |

I'm willing to go to Dayton if I have to find a job. With the price of gas, I'm hesitant about going too far because my car doesn't get very good gas mileage. It's also an older car so I'm not sure how well it will hold up with driving back and forth. I still have to take state board so I don't have my license yet. I was told it could take 3 months or longer to find a job, so we were told to start looking as early as possible. There are other courses at Edison and JVS has some nursing and health care courses. I'm interested in taking the Medical Terminology course at JVS if enough people sign up. If not, then I'll take it online. I don't know if I could take the MA course any time soon because I would need financial aid (a lot of it, too) to enroll. I know dermatologists, etc prefer medical staff like RNs and LPNs. I'll probably look for a job in a day spa and then do continuing education. My opinion is I'll take any classes that would make me a more valuable employee. |
