Believe it or not your technical experience is only a portion of the job. An important part of the appraisers position is customer service. You need to interact with shop owners / managers and the customer professionally. Most people think they are but believe me they are not. I worked for a major insurance company for 18 years before semi-retirement. I was an auto manager and adjuster. I had adjusters who were good technitions but had poor "people skills". My advice is to try to get into an insurance company but polish up on you communication skillls prior to applying. Most carriers provide excellent training in both technical and consumer interactions. Good Luck..
