Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field? What skills should you learn to increase your salary? |

In order to be a great armed guard and get paid your just due you have to broker yourself to the highest paying contractor in your state. Sometimes relocation is the only option to land a job in a good contract. Make sure to get your pistol permit and become proficient, anyone can get NRA endorsed but only a true operator takes his/her craft seriously, and it will show at the interview. |

In PA it is a 40 hour course along with range instruction. |

Oregon Security Training
In Oregon jobs range from around 8.75/hr up to $25.00 + /hr. Un-Armed Security jobs start out on the lower end, and Then typicly more for Armed or Armed Patrol. The higher paying jobs are usualy Federal Armed Security jobs/contracts. Note: In Oregon you must be DPSST licensed to work security. Un-Armed "BASIC" training 12.0 hrs Armed "Up-Grade" 24.0 hrs You need BOTH training courses to work Armed Security. Respectfully, Oregon Security Training

Nate, The pay scale varies according to location most of your GOV contracts pay a min of 16-18 hr plus Health and welfare which is another 2 to 3 dollars an hour.Currently I make between 18-20 an hr part-time and my fulltime gig is 23-25 hr but thats in NY,again check with some of the larger security companies. But I have 8 yrs sec experience and retired military. |

This seems to be problematic - it seems as though all of my employment competition is coming from military or law enforcement background. Without either of those backgrounds, I would imagine that my app would continually be shuffled to the bottom of the stack, untimately resulting in working for a 2nd rate company if any. Think this is a safe assumption? Ideally, I'd like to gain the training necessary to instruct handgun, but again, background becomes an issue, as well as a likely lack of clientelle(?) And again, these courses are so expensive!! Front Sight - thousands, aside from the $1500 in ammo they ask you to have. This is looking less and less like a realistic goal for the civilian. |

I'm an armed officer in Indiana and i get 11.00/hour right now. This is my first armed job and im looking to make my resume look more impressive and get a little experience under my belt in that area. In Indiana i've seen position pay vary but armed job are actually pretty hard to come by around here. I've seen an armed position as high as about $13-14/hour and as low as $9.50/hour. Yes, i've seen armed positions posted for $9.50/hour more than once. Almost unheard of that any company would expect someone to put thier life at risk for what people make as a cashier. Security is a wierd business in itself. I would rather make 11.00 as an armed guard than 11.50 as an unarmed...wearing a uniform without any kind of weapon just bothers me now. |
