What are typical art director salaries? Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field? What skills should you learn to increase your salary? |

Art director salaries seem to have dropped since one now has to know so much more! It seems like anyone with a Mac and Adobe CS2 installed thinks they can be a designer. The profession is becoming diluted big time. SO diluted that I am seriously thinking of leaving it behind! |

It's a tough field now - too many designers. The biggest thing now is learning the web-based programs like Flash and Dreamweaver. Don't even bank on print work. I'm a print person and I'm getting obsolete now. |

You should choose the right friends, as ever, in any job, to grow up together, that's the truth, even if they are not the most qualified people to be in the business. |

Starting salary is 20 to 35. Don't worry about were you start.
Average salaries in the 50's. Top art directors 70 plus. |

Some art directors get a lot more than that. I knew one on 220k. He was well awarded. This is advertising art director tho, not a designer calling himself an art director. There's a lot more to it in advertising than just making stuff look pretty. |
