Absolutely, some places pay more, in some cases MUCH more. I made over 9.00 an hour in the early and mid-90's doing asset protection. I was hired this past week by a major discount retailer, and was called in to formerly accept. I had listed my minimum acceptable wage, as was required on their online app. When the computer was turned my way to "accept" the position, I was appalled and very shocked to see that this major retailer expected me to catch shoplifters, walk the store all day to deter shoplifting, write reports, testify in court etc for $8.80 an hour!!! They also said they do a "much more extensive background check on asset protection employees" and it would take a week or more for that, then I would be set up for an orientation appointment after that! So this info they hadn't told me before let me know that not only was I going to be making an extremely poor hourly wage (they claimed it was "comparable to other retailers"), but it would still take over 2 weeks before I start work and 2 more weeks before the 1st paycheck. So find out ALL details before you leap! I had to rescind my acceptance of the job offer and I'm still looking.
