I was curious about how to get started as being a buyer. Some tips would be useful as well as the qualifications employers look for. |

Hello, I am also trying to change career and be an assistant buyer. From my research, I think the best way is to apply for an executive program. Big stores usually have them for recent college graduates, career changer and/or their current employees. The program usually put you on the floor as an assistant manager, and then you move up to assistant buyer. I hope you find the information somewhat helpful. |

I just graduated from college this may with a degree in marketing and sociology. I would like to get started as an assistant buyer, but am afraid that it won't work because my degree is not specific enough. I've had a summer of retail work at a women's clothing store, but I'm still concerned that this won't be enough. Any suggestions? |

Liz, I have the same exact background as you, sociology/marketing and am interested in becoming a buyer. Have you had any luck since your last post? |
