I worked my way through the company. You have to have a knowledge of all aspects of the restaurant. As a floor manager you have to be decisive and stick to your decisions and then if they turn out to be incorrect learn from them. I was also aggresive as in I let it be known that when time was right I wanted the opportunity to advance. Also be inquisitive if there is something you don't understand ask questions. It shows you want to learn and help.
