What is the best training for becoming an assistant? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective assistant?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

You have to be computer literate being proficient in MS Office. Being able to work independently, paying attention to detail and ofcourse strong coordination and planning skills - keeping in mind that you are maintaining calendars, booking meetings / conferences, travel arrangements etc for the team you are supporting..... last but no least the ability to priortize.
