There are different procedures depending on the institution, the amount of the shortage and how long you have been with the bank.

Obviously, if you just started, there is more acceptance.

Where I work, if you are off $25 or less you are fine. But if you are off $25.01 or more, then it does count against your scorecard. Look up the balancing procedures for your bank and there are different ones depending on the amount. I believe from $25.01- $99.99 there are different procedures than $100 +
