How did you get your start doing boiler operator work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

Do you need a particular educational background?

I started off as a welder in a plant,their was an opening for a plant maintinance Engineer,which included hands on training, with our 3 babcock and wilcox 1000 Horsepower watertube boilers.And 1 wasteheat afterburner,the only eduacational background, I recomend, is a willingness to learn,the schools and training opurtunities are thier.

Yes, But as a boler operator youll also be doing plant maintinance,Im in the Operating Engineers Union Local 501,the only really good jobs avaliable in our Union at this time are boiler operator jobs, LICENSED,they need guys at the new Kaiser hospitals and also City of L.A needs boiler operators,despite this economy Steam is needed.

Work (2 years) in (Dabboul company) in Damascus, we made new burners,
and install central heating, repair burners, boilers and steam boilers.
In 2006 to 2008:

Come back to Qamishli work with Al-Jazeera central heating,
Solar energy & plumbing.

I took good Experience (7 years) in Central heating.
1 Inspection and requirement before boiler operation.
2 Boiler feed water.
3 Preparation before boiler operation.
4 Alarm point of each pressure and temperature.
5 Cleaning of boiler piping.
6 Adjustment of Burner.
7 Compression test for pressure pipeline.
8 Boilers, Normal shutdown and Emergency shutdown.
9 Boiler maintenance.
10 Install Gas burners and oil burners in Hospitals.
11 change all kind of valves…..etc.

All this conditions done by PPE.

well im working at a state college running 350 hp keelers i have 20 yrs in the navy and i got 13 yrs here so im on 33 yrs its a good job in a small plant ya work alone and its not to demanding when your plant is fully computorized,except for minor repairs and painting its prety boring im making about 18.50 a hour low pay but decent benifits

You should have a basic mechanical background on eguipment such as pumps,closed/open heaters,read up on boilers,request from your state what is required,check local unions for traing..check boiler operator guide..
