Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field? What skills should you learn to increase your salary? |

Are we talking about inspectors that work for the local city/county or those who do home inspections? Government would be $20-30K or so locally, maybe $40K+ in a bigger city. Just depends on the locality. Skill wise I would prefer to see someone with a very strong and thorough background in the construction trades, preferably in the same area as the inspector position to make one familiar with the local code requirements. This is a line of work where hands-on experience is preferred over a degree or certification. |

I have been involved in one way or another with the construction trade for about 10 years.Would that qualify me some way to apply for a building inspector position?I have been quite interested in pursueing a career as a home or building inspector.I am a very particular person who likes to have things done perfect and right the first time. |
