Get some exp. driving a smaller bus for for instance a nursing home or retirement home. Many of these have their own small buses and sometimes need drivers. Possibly even volunteer at an old folks home and get the experience and their recommendation on your resume. Then go out and approach some bigger companies in your area and see what comes up! I speak from experience. I volunteered at an old folks home and slid right into a 56 passenger drivers seat a year later! Charter driving is GREAT but you may have to do some work to get into it....Good Luck! |

Any information would help I drove an 18 wheeler for 14 months then applied for a job at the local city transit. The job pays well enough BUT... I have been spit on, cursed, threatened, had a guy sneeze and blow snot in my face and generally abused by the ones who ride the city transit. It seems a lot of the riders think the ride is owed them and don't have any regard for the rules of the company. Sadly the company does not back up their rules, tries to placate the complaining customer even when the customer is totally wrong. To be a city bus driver you have to have thick skin or be thick headed. It is the third best paying job I have had and the first worse in working conditions. |

I was a Greyhound driver also.. The key to survival at grehound is mobility.. what I mean is.. You must be willing to relocate to another Greyhound terminal that has a low driver count on their extra board... |

You must be willing to relocate to another Greyhound terminal that has a low driver count on their extra board... You should not have to relocate to work when you applyed for a terminal not many terminals, and the question i have is when you move around who footing the living bill? and if you are buying a home in your home state are they paying your current mrgt as well as rent where you have jumped to. of course not it appeared to me they are out for themselves and should be sued for falsely giving information upon hiring and the union should be sued as well what are they being paid for to allow the newly hired to laid off while there are driver that can afford to fur-low for a while those that have 25 plus yrs it is a shame how they played with so many lives, homes lost , it a shame. and may god have mercy on grey hound. |

Ladies and gentlemen: 1. Please spend a few minutes and read your post before submitting it. It is an important message you have to pass on. However, your voice is lost when your writings are incoherent. Think about what you want to say, then write it in a logical order. And remember to right click, then select "Spell Check." |

2. Remember, there are many people who are thinking of entering commercial transportation as a new career; many will end up here reading your postings. Please help them to understand how difficult it is to find a decent job driving when they get out of school. Many drivers have lost everything they had due to near minimum wage pay checks. $17.00 per hour at Greyhound is not much money if you only get 10-20 hours a week. Swift Transportation pays Over The Road drivers 25 Cents Per Mile to live in a truck for weeks at a time... Not much to take home after you pay $5 per shower and buy all your meals at a truck stop. Even driving 2000 miles per week it is barely a break even job after your expenses. Local or city jobs generally will not hire you unless you have Over The Road experience. Most require 6, 12, or 24 months OTR experience. There are several other hot topics with them as well. Speeding tickets, you better not have more than one (1) in last five (5) years or you will have a very difficult time finding a truck company that IS ALLOWED BY THEIR INSURANCE COMPANY TO HIRE YOU. And if you have a DUI, OMVI, Wreckless Operation, Drag Racing, Fleeing, or any kind of criminal history you might as well NOT PAY A TRUCK DRIVING SCHOOL BECAUSE YOU A VIRTUALLY UNEMPLOYABLE. If you are not in excellent health, be honest with yourself, you may have a difficult time getting through the DOT physical. Bus driving takes a friendly, thick skinned, thinking driver. If you have performance anxiety issues (ie - Hate to have people watch your every move) this is not the driving job for you. If you do not like public speaking this may not be your career. |

AND YOU GET THAT FROM SCHOOL BUS DRIVING GO TO YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL DIST AND SEE IF THEY ARE HIRING THEY ALSO TRAIN YOU WILL EITHER HAVE TO PAY OR TRAIN WITHOUT ANY PAY. |

The best thing to do is to google charter bus companies in whatever area you desire. Then call each one and tell them you are inquiring about a position there. If they don't answer fax your resume or leave a message. This seems like the only suitable thing to do instead of filing resumes and applications with thousands of people online, or reading forums. |
