I am a long haul driver an i do agree with you about the open diferences between the way we are treated in trucking jobs only because of gender. i have had male friends call companys for jobs on one phone an all but hired on the phone while i called the same places on my phone an was told they are not hireing! But there are some (very few) companies that are beter towards women drivers. US Express was one that seemed more positive towards women than many i have found when i first started driving. Good Luck! I love it out here but it is a hard life yet well worth it. |

I am in the process of getting my Carrier Authority. I know that it is unusual for a woman to own a trucking company, but that is likely to work to my advantage (according to my loan officer). My husband will be the one to screen my drivers and I am here to tell you, he is hoping to find some female drivers! He has been in this industry for 12+ years and is of the personal belief that there are far more GOOD female drivers on the road these days than men. Women know how to get s@#% done!! They take better care of their equipment; take more pride in their work and so on. My companies name is On Cue Transportation LLC. and if any of you women out there are willing to give a "new company"ÃâÃÂa shot, send me an e-mail at mcclellanjodi@gmail.com.com. I am just a small town girl trying to get started and I can't guaranty all the things a "big"Ãâàname company can but, my intention is to have my drivers feel like they are the closest thing to having "their own authority"Ãâàwithout having to file for it. I am looking for only Owner Operators right now, but that may change in the future. We may get into some Lease /Purchas programs down the road (real programs, not the crap/scam stuff that we all know OTHERS do). |

I am looking for a qualified CDL driver in the Maryland/VA/DCd area. That can transport HAZMAT / Electronic equipment in a bin to electronic recycling facilities. This is a female owned business. |

I would just like your feedback: I'm thinking of totally changing careers-getting my CDL. I'm 41, have been driving since I was 16 and drove everywhere when I lived in Europe for 13 years. I'm not afraid of difficult situations as long as it's not highly dangerous. What would you women recommend to me? What would be the best way to go about getting my CDL and what are some of the pros and cons? Thanks very much in advance for your help! Lorie |
