What is the best training for becoming a cdl driver? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective cdl driver? What do non-traditional career paths look like? |

Well the best training would be an in depth training program that teaches how to do everything fromm adjusting brakes to a thorough pre trip. Getting a degree from a community college is always a good way to go. Especially one that is certified to issue you a P.T.D.I certifcate from the Professional Truck Drivers Institute. Some programs ar e short and some long. The longer the better i think cause it gives you more time on the road and better prepares you for real world employment. The #1 thing to know and remember is safety and the commitment to that are essential in this field. I went through a 6month course that was very in depth. Also upon completion we received the P.T.D.I. Certificate. We recv'd plenty of driving and backing experience as well driving Rail trucks, dump trucks, buses, class A and B. In addition we recv'd real work experience doing dump runs and real life deliveries of heavy equipment as well as food and othe Misc. items. We also recv'd classes in diesel enigines, electrical systems, Air brake systems and manual transmission class. After completion of Brake class we recv'd a brake adjustment certifcation stating we can adjust our own brakes if in the event of them needing adjusting or your vehicle is deemed out of service. |
