I've been searching for a job since I got my cdl, but haven't had much luck finding local routes or day shift due to my inexperience. Does anyone have any tips? |

Take whatever you can, as soon as you can. Carriers who will give jobs to new grads want you driving usually within 30 to 60 days of your CDL, so take what comes, and keep in mind it gets easier after your first year. The trucking industry isn't now, never has been, and never will be a 9 to 5 proposition. If you insist on limiting yourself to day shift and local routes, you may not find a job. Be open to OTR for the first year, bite the bullet, and get the experience. Then you'll have a shot at a local delivery type job. Remember that in this economy, many local and regional companies are getting 20 or 30 applications for every job they post. Would you hire an unproven newbie or the guy who's been doing it for 6 years and is looking to get home daily? |
